Question Is it wrong to want >14 spokes in a wheel?

Hey gang. New to the board, the Z groups, (and to performance automotive in general)…

After years of resisting, I’ve finally been bitten by the car bug. This weekend I went and drove a handful of cars, and think I’m finally settling on an '05 350Z Track.

What a beautiful machine.

My question is: Is it wrong to want 14-16 spokes in a wheel? The stock wheels on the 350 just don’t do much for me... and, well... i know nothing about wheels.

from an aesthetic level, I’d like something a little more like this:

Advice? Pointers?

Thanks!

(for the curious: yeah, those are the wheels on the crossfire srt-6… which I drove this weekend also. Lots of fun, but for $50k, I thought the build quality was a little low, their “steptronic” auto shifter sucked, and my head hit the ceiling… I’d rather an M3 for that price tag…)

its not wrong...hang out on this forum for a while and youll see some REALLY wrong things

most people feel that less-spoked wheels compliment the z more..but its purely personal preference

The two most common reasons to change/upgrade wheels are 1. Looks 2. Performance with weight being the big issue there. The more a wheel weights, the more it sucks up hp thus lower performance.

If you are going to swap out the wheels right away and you do not really need to Brembo brakes, I would suggest getting the Enthusiast or Performance models. Use the money you save to buy wheels and tires. Nothing wrong with the wheels you chose. I would not buy them but, again, it is a personal choice. There really is no point in modifying/personalizing your car is you are just trying to make it look like the next guys.

interesting... this is what i was wondering...

i was thinking about going "Track" for the brembos and the +13 hp... but it is ~$4k more. (and i would have to wait until jan to get it)

is there anything else missing from the Performance vs. the Track?

Also, (and maybe this is only for Track, i dunno) the tire pressure gauges... do they work in aftermarket wheels?

thanks for all the info!

The 13 HP can easily be made up using aftermarket parts on the other models. The performance model comes with the TPS (not sure about enthusiast). The TPS are a drop in for SOME aftermarket wheels, in others they can be "adapted".

if you are going to mod the car. go with a base. if this is just a weekend pleasure car that you want nicer wheels on go with performance or maybe enthusias.

lsd, better exhaust, intake, bigger breaks and wheels will come out to a same price as a track model.

depends what wheels and breaks of course but if you are reasonable you can beat a track price and have a faster car all-together with nicer parts.

edit: alot of people probably don't agree with me but IMO base is best bang for the buck. for modding.
