RPM for best MPG
So I assume 3000 RPM is the proper rpm to cruise in and get the right MPG.
So lets say I am cruising at 70 mph at 3200-3300 rpm. Is this bad for the engine?

Your user name is very interesting. Look at a BSFC map for our cars and it'll give you a general idea of what RPM and load you should aim for to get the best gas mileage. I can link you to the relevant equations if you really want them. It'd be much easier to figure it out empirically in my opinion.

Target would be in top gear around 65 mph , after that you lose MPG. I set cruise just shy of 80 and I'm happy with my consumption.

Friday, I made an approximate 150 mile road trip. I set the cruise on 70 mph, in 6th gear, top up and the AC on. That included some urban traffic as well.
At the end of the trip I was hitting almost 29 mpg according to the on board computer.
