Stereo Install
I pulled my car apart last night to install my new Alpine 7897 and it was a snap. Mind you I was doing it alone and at night it took me about an hour and a half and nothing was broken.

Yup, the Alpine wiring harness that I bought plugged into the radio and then plugged into the Nissan wiring harness which in turn plugged into the cars wiring. There was no splicing or soldering. Just the snappig in of harnesses :-)
I used the face plate made my Metra for the Honda Accord. It doesnt look great but its just something temporary until the 350z faceplate from Metara comes in......should be about 5 days. They had to order me one!
The 7897 is awsome, what a difference, I still have the factory speakers in there but the sound quality is much better with the new headunit.
I am probably going to swap out the speakers and add a sub sometime in the spring. It just getting way too cold here in Jersey to do it right now, and I dont really want to take it to a shop to get it done. Half the fun of having the car is modifying it.

How do you like the 7897? I haven't decided between that one and the 7998. It appears that the only difference is the lack of amp (ok, have external amps) and the better display. Any thoughts on this one? Did you consider it? I found it for about $100 more online so I think I might go for it since a small price difference.

zjedi,
Glad to hear about your easy install. This is the exact headunit that I'm looking at, and I'm also looking at leaving the stock speakers with no external amp until next spring. Do you have any pics of the headunit mounted? Thanks!

Sabre,
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...448dc4909eb040
This is one of those price comparison sites. I looked at this unit at the big stores, Circuit City, Ultimate Electronics, etc. and they want $800. I've found it at several places (see above link) for $580-600 shipped. I'm thinking I might do this install myself, if I can locate the same wiring harnesses.
zjedi,
Where can I get a hold of the Alpine to Nissan wiring harness? Do you have a model # for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
