I went out to the Dunn Benson 1/8 mile strip tonight to just see what its all about. 10$ to race, prolly coulda got in 20 pulls in the 4 hrs the test and tune session was. However, I got in 1.
There's way more stuff to pay attention to than I thought. I pre-staged, then rolled forward to get the stage lights, then the pre-stage light went out. I musta moved too far ahead. Didnt know what to do. By that time the tree started and turned green before i could even get the rev's up.
I told myself all day, pedal the throttle to avoid wheelspin. So what do I do, mash it. spin spin, shift, burn clutch, slip clutch try to shift, bang rev limiter for the rest of the run.
The #'s were solid
reaction : .8049
60ft: 2.46
330 : 6.24
1/8: 9.76 @ 69.20
HAHAHA. sweet. The clutch was so burned and smelled so bad, I was completely embarrassed. Decided to cut my losses and head home. Didnt wanna risk burning the clutch completely, plus I was knocking a bunch (shoulda bought some race gas).
Either way it was fun, and I'll head back in the spring better prepared!
This is my rpm vs boost chart. what a mess! Too much boost, too weak of a clutch!

i didnt want to lose my clutch completely. I was slipping in 1st on the drive home as it was
Plus i was by myself, so if something happened it woulda sucked that much worse.
also, if you ran in the 8s you needed to have a helmet. I had seen pics of guys running all yr without helmets, so I woulda been kicked out anyhow.
More prepared for next time

Ya it was fun in an anxious type of way. I was really surprised by the # of trailer queens out there. There was probably less than 10% of the cars that were driven to and from the track.
Also, 1/8 is soo short. realistically i shoulda just been on top of 3rd get at the end of the trap.

if you don't mind driving to kinston they do test and tune every thursday and it's 1/4 mile.
I think next friday is flat out friday 1/4 mile racing from 6pm-12am.
I usually get in 6-8 runs my fastest time there is 13.49 with a 8.6 1/8th N/A.

Just keep practicing and don't worry about what other drivers there may think. Everyone has to learn sometime.
For general drag racing techniques, check out the link I provided. The driver uses a corvette, but his techniques apply to 350Z's as well. Ranger knows his stuff.

^^ ya thats what I was reading today. That was the 1st time i've ever done a high boost no vdc pull. The stock clutch doesnt like that much power. Had i not smoked the clutch, I woulda worked on my 60ft all night. Like I asid, you could have easily got in 20 or 30 passes in the 4 hours. Very good deal.
Not sure if Kinston or Rockingham is closer. The rock does 1/4 mile TnT on the weekends I think. I'll have to check that out. Need to get on that top 25 list
