Yup. You're right, it was a serious effort. With the last couple or bolts , I was getting tired applying all of my weight, and when it loosened suddenly I fell over once or twice. No injuries, just funny. I have to remember to work smarter, not harder. I have since stopped at Auto Zone and picked up the proper ratchet socket so I can use the larger ratchet bar.

Well I succeeded in tearing the block down to the core. Great. I did my little celebration dance.
Now I started the rebuild. I think it would be appropriate to start a new thread.

This is awesome work.

(I know it's been asked a million times, but I still am not sure of the answer. How long do our timing chains last? I'm at 70k miles, so I would be in need of a timing belt change likely, but what about a chain?)

So you had to resurrect a seven-year old thread just to ask for the million-and-one time? The answer remains the same: there IS NO TIMING BELT on a VQ35DE, rev up or HR. There is an accessory belt on the front of the engine that s/b inspected and replaced at 60K. As for the actual timing chain, Nissan has engineered them to last THE LIFETIME OF THE ENGINE. As long as the lubrication and cooling systems are maintained, there's NO reason to replace the timing chain!

dkmura,

Thank you!! Very clear answer. (Not sure what I was asking in my last post there. Looks like I typo'd it.)

I kept using all of my data from my phone plan... I'll be back when I step up my plan... I have a shared phone plan with 10 gigs with 3 lines... I used to eat up 8 gigs in like the first 2 weeks of the month.

But ill be back.
