Default Any tips for LONG distance driving

Starting point is OakHarbor WA and gona be taking most of I-90 to Henderson NC, after staying there a few days I'll be going down to Pensacola, FL then after im done with school there (30)days Ill be driving all the way back to Lemoore CA on most of I-10. Any tips? Like is it better to drive in the night to avoid traffic, what rest stops to avoid. Should I avoid sleeping in reststops all together? What size knife should I carry and whats a good Hiding place in the car for it? What states are notorius for speed traps? The following is a list of my current provisions:

-Fix-a-Flat
-GasCan
-TireWires
-JumperCables
-Snuggly blanket n pillow
-Laser Pointer
-My desketop computer
-Paper backup map
-Human feed

people say im crazy. I say "Hey its GRAND Touring so Ill be ok cuz the car was made for this."

Night driving is ok for one night, but it's very hard on you and you get fatigued quickly. I'd leave early in the morning, drive until around 12, have a nice lunch rest stop, continue until 5 or so, have another long stop, then drive until 10 or 11. Drive with the windows down as much as possible to get some fresh air.

Everytime I stopped in a rest stop it was very unpleasant. Just spend a little on a hotel. If you get caught by the cops with a knife, that could be a problem.

Here's what I do. All of my preventative maintenance, the night before... checked tire pressure (incl. the spare), fluids, etc. Made sure that my SimpleStart was charged up, in case I needed a boost. That's about it. Oh, and I keep a collapsible riot baton in the car too. Usually, in the door pocket. Not the cheap, lightweight ones, I'm talking the heavy-gauge steel ones, that'll really leave a mark... .

As far as the driving schedule, do what Tubbs said, I've always done that, on longer trips. Night driving, more than 1 or 2 nights is gonna kick you're @$$ worse than driving during the day. Just do what was suggested, and you'll be ok.

And wear comfortable clothes for the trip. Gonna be a long trip. Good luck.

Think about a small pillow for your lower back as well. On short trips, the Z is fairly comfortable. On long trips, my lower/mid back start to ache.

Only one recommendation, and it's important:

Wear a leg bag.

From my experience bringing a woman just causes nagging the whole way. You get one bj, and 46 hours of "blah blah... going too fast...blah... you took a wrong turn...blah..." Not worth it.

how big of a knife can you legally carry in your car, i always have a knife in my little side pocket on the seat. But not for protection it opens up my little secret compartments.

From experience on long trips (not in a z)

A best friend would be a good addition (no women as mentioned above)

Definitally take a club or something, i have a small little leaguge bat i drilled out and filled with a steal rod

Music, Music, and more Music

Maps and the basic road side stuff + a first aid bag

Driving with windows down is good but not for me for over a few hours.

Definitaly don't try and do it all at night (i fell a sleep once could have been very bad but i lucked out)

DO NOT SLEEP IN YOUR CAR!!!! not only is it dangerous it is illegal in some states

Make sure you eat balance meals Suger high only last for so long!

And last but not least i took a bottle of my favorit drink for those nice nights at the hotel SPA

Good luck man

Make you you use a bra or tape up your ride. Yeah it looks like **** but your bug smashed rock chipped front bumper will look worst! I'd also bring a lug wrench set and a bottle of motor oil. Make sure your spare tire is good and ready to go as well. Other then that bring a phone charger! Calling people will keep you up instead of feeling tired and sleeper.

EDIT: Bring clean towels (pack of 6 or so) and a big bottle of meguier's quick detailer. If bird ****s on your ride you'll have to clean it up right away before the acid eats your paint.
