mustgoFastR did the email you are getting emailed at.. where do you have that email listed.. this site, umm aol.. etc.. bc even tho MOST people on this forum are cool and informative.. there are still PR!cks out there and can be doing it for a good laugh.. the car to me seems ON THE LEVEL.. and with all the proof you have and everything the car seems to be ok.. if you have someone go check it.. have them be driven in it, and let them inspect the car.. if all goes well.. i don't see the car *blowing up* on you.. GL again with everything..

Only problem is, I'm having a hard time finding someone to go check it out. Plus, it's hard to tell engine issues without in-depth diagnostics.

Ok, I found a flight out Monday morning for $200 round trip. IF I go, I'm just wondering if I would actually be able to tell if something was wrong with the motor. What should I look for?

Man, I would take it to an indepdent mechanic and have it tested.

I almost got SCREWED buying a car on ebay. I flew down to Dallas, drove it, looked at it. Everything seemed fine. And I was buying from a dealer.

The thing blew up 20 miles away. Head gasket.

I had to threaten a lawsuit to get my $ back. Thank god I finally got my cash.

ss-

the true question....

is the risk worth the reward?

you are totally gambling with this, so weigh your options...

you want to have a compression test done, and then id say at least a couple of dyno pulls, with a/f metering....

do we even know about the blower yet??

Ok, let me ask you guys this: Say the engine is solid. So I re-do the fuel management and tone the rest down a bit (not looking to massively de-mod, just make it more of a road-going car), right? In you guy's opinion, would this car provide as much driving enjoyment as a used e46 M3 costing 10k more? That was my other option, but I would have to hold out and save up a while.

only you know what will please you; the rest is surely opinion

can you ride, with comfort, in a car that rattles, buzzes, and creakes from all the non-oem panels, and broken tabs, pins, tolerances?? would you mind the occasional lights blinking on, only to go back off (never to be figured, as it was a botched wiring re-do)....

i wouldnt be able to have that interior, day in, and out.... (need dark, solid colors for my liking)....

I'm referring strictly to performance and handling.

steve.. save up and go for the M3.. m3 is so nice.. 2 of my friends have them.. phoenix yellow, and leguna seca (my fav) and they have slight mods on them (rims intake, front lip etc) such a nice car.. and its very classy and everyday savy at the same time..

but don't forget that this Z with the sc and everything will crap over an m3.. so they are 2 different cars and 2 different classes.. depends what you want.. and thats only a decision you can make. GL either way

I think I'm gonna pass on this. Too many questions, not enough resources to answer them in short period of time. I'm recalling now all of the blown up engines from ATI kits early on; likely right around the time this one was done. Even if they yuned it at install, they likely didn't have a knowledge base to go on and the company likely didn't keep up with it. Very possible it has engine trouble that would be hard to detect. Still a great deal for somebody, even if it needed some engine work, if the car were exactly what they were looking for, but I jjust don't have the resources to take that risk.

I think I have a pretty good out where Ebay is concerned if the seller tries to come after me. The auction page states some things that are not true, like the NX kit (Mad Dog Audio told me it isn't even a full bottle; it's cut in half) and the wheels being only set in US, so I could say it was misrepresented.

I'll call and break it to them either tomorrow or Monday. Thanks for all the input and advice, guys; I feel like I can sleep well now.

Maybe. They'll likely offer it the the second highest bidder (only $100 less) first.

It wasn't just the e-mails that made me make the decision, though they did help me to consider things more carefully. Questionably tuned ATI on a car that may or may not have accurate odometer reading is bad news any way you cut it.

Who knows? Maybe the second bidder sent you those emails to get the second chance to buy. I dont think the guy will relist. But in any event, I think you make the right decision.

Thanks, guys. Couple other things didn't sit well with me, either. When I called Mad Dog Audio, they told me that Toucan stiffed them on like $2800 on the car. I did a little more hunting here; the car was seen and discussed in several threads and some poeple posted up their pics (search ractive). These shots are of the prototype Evotion front brake kit with titanium rotors. I don't care if they're diamond, with a design like that, the'd warp all to Hell and likely fly appart with the first heavy use:
