Default Oil Level

So decided to go to the dealer for my 7500mi oil change @6400mi . When I got home and checked the reciept, they charged me for 4 quarts. I checked the dipstick and the oil level is about 1/4 of the bar between L and H . I know the manual states 5quarts, but where exactly should the oil level be for 5 quarts? I'm hoping they didnt underfill.

I measured this many times. Optimal (usually dead center on dipstick) is 4.5 quarts. This is with a filter change. There is always oil left inside in varous areas, including the bottom of the pan.

You mean you guys can actually read your dipstick. I know I can't. I just heat the car up, change the oil making sure I let it all drain out, change the filter, and fill er up with 5 quarts and don't worry about it. Just watch your oil pressure and if it drops or acts strange then you might be low on oil. As for the 4 quarts thing. They might have just wrote that accidently since the majority of cars take around 4 quarts.

It's very difficult to read..but since it has grooves, if you put it up to a light and move it back and forth...you will eventually see a very faint line separating the oily from the non-oily side.

It's hard...but I could not resist knowing the oil level for sure....and after I confirmed this after two or three fillups, I stopped checking and simply use the same amount of oil every time.

I suspect, 5 litters put's you at the 75% of the range, and 4 puts you at the 25% of the range...it could be a wider spread though.
