everyone has an opinion

do you guys not like the elise cause of its shape or size?

it's the complete opposite logic of the american muscle car so I can see why most americans wouldn't like it.

I'm really pissed off at a lot of things with the Z, but love it anyway.

It's heavy - way heavy
not all that mod friendly
lots of cheap parts
I've broken 3 or 4 bolts in the engine bay cause they're cheap bolts
The ECU isn't that smart or flexible
the stock tires suck
stock tires aren't wide enough
wheels are way too thin
etc etc I can go on

but I love the car and that's why I bought it

same with the elise except the only faults I can think of are actually its strengths also

it's small - handles awesome
it has a 4 cylinder engine - which can keep up well if not be faster than a Z on the track
it's feminine looking - aka exotic, I mean define a masculine car (big, heavy, bulky, V8)

Go to the elise forums and watch them bash the crap out of the Z.

There's a guy who has a modded exige (hardcore elise basically) that does 0-60 in 3.2 sec. A Z will never touch that and still expect to turn. His car you know will handle awesome.

On the elise forums, the Z drivers have a reputation as being wannabe track drivers who load up their car with body kits, stereo, LED lights, big rims that wanna go driving slow down campus roads showing off their ride, trying to pick up chicks. I know better than that, but you gotta admit in a way that is partially true to SOME extent because there's a lot of guys who mod their Z in that sorta way and that's cool for them.

Just saying the elise was built as a track car that you can still drive on the road. While the Z was built as a road car that you can take to the track.

But for the people who think small cars = small dicks/gay homosexual racers who like wimpy 4 cylinder engines and girly looking cars, just something to think about

And lastly, what's wrong with spending $35k to mod a $35k car? If you love the car and enjoy working on your car and having a custom made car that probably no one else has the exact same thing that you basically created via choice in parts - that's half the fun. You buy a porsche and well that's it. Nothing really to look forward to with that.

well maybe except that $400+k one

but then again, I think the lotus elise is one of the hottest looking cars ever
I don't think they are ugly per se, but the design is SOOOOO old. You can carry a basic idea for a while but the car has had the same basic look for over 40 years. Porsche needs something completely new...like when they came out with the 928 back in 1978. Totally new cutting edge design and a V8.

The Z detroys almost everything on the road in the looks department and it is a very nicely balanced package.

I think most Porsche buyers want the instant recognition of an established high-end brand. We might call it tired, but the average Porsche consumer thinks it's 'timeless.'

Don't get me wrong: I don't like the look of Porshes. But, I don't think Porsche is out of design ideas - I think they are playing to their core market.

I think that they obviously found something that works, and that will sell. It's safe, but safe isn't always fun.

Spending 30K+ in mods for the Z or buy a $60,000 sports car and keep it stock for higher resale and more reliable HP and warrentee?
If you expect a good resale value just because your mods. Dont do it. Be prepare to take a dive. But if you have the fun to create your car, search the parts, wait for it, install some of them yourself, you will feel closer to your car.
