Default feathering, 2005 and taking delivery of car

Question

I'm going in to put the down payment on my Z this tuesday...

with all the issues of feathering..

I'd feel more comfortable at least knowing that the car that I'm taking delivery of has correct factory suspension specs.

I'm nervous because their flat bedding the car to the dealership

is it ok or smart of me to ask for a complete printout of the alignment specs of the car so that I know theres nothing wrong with the suspension?

OR should I forget the alignment request since most Z's that have feathering are within factory spec anyways?

should this be free? or should I pay if the dealer request that I be charged for this?

Our dealership here aligns the car as soon as it rolls off the truck. They have had no feathering issues with any of the 350's they have sold. My service manager owns an '03 base model and has never had any issues with his car either. I didn't buy my car ['04 touring] but did have the feathering problem at 1500 miles. I had plans to upgrade the suspension anyway and installed the nismo s-tune and have had 10,000 miles with absolutely zero problems. We had Michelin Pilot sports put on and the entire ride of the car changed. It is awesome. I am very happy. My brother works for a nissan dealership and he told me that they had changed the factory suspension so you probably will not have any problems there anyway hopefully. I would definitely want the alignment done when it rolls off the truck. Don't drive it one foot without that being done. Hope this helps. Happy modding!!
YOu are getting ready to have lots of fun with this car. I love it.

I meant to say that I didn't buy my car from them because my brother got the car for me but since I had the feathering issue. I go to another dealership in a small town about 30 minutes out due to the fact that I found out that they had had no feathering issues. I just wanted to correct what I had left out in my previous reply. Thanks.

The feathering problem does not occur in every Z. From the information I see, it does not occur until some of the Zs had a higher mileage. You can ask for the alignment print out on delivery, but it doesn't mean anything. I have an 04.5, mileage still low, but no problems so far.

Our 03 started at 11k miles. Got new tires and Nissans "new" alignment, started feathering 8k miles later.

2004.5 with 8500 miles. Just had tires replaced for feathering. As stated above, expect it. Don't believe statements like "they have changes the suspension....." or "the problem has been corrected". That is what I was told when I purchased mine. My advice to you is to get the car though. It is a great value for the money and Nissan replaced my tires, so for now it is OK.

You should definately ask the dealer to give you a free aligmnet. And that is exactly what I did. they will try to brush you off by saying it is a brand new car, so there is no need to get one, just dont listen to them. I posted this earlier, take a look
