Default Sounds like medal clanging together under the hood... what is it? and feathering.....

I have an '04 6mt with less than 6000 miles. At around 3k and also again at about 3500 miles after that, i heard clanking noise under the hood after driving about 50 miles (los angeles to oc). Sounded like medals hitting each other. It usually starts when in idle or in 1st gear for about 10 seconds or until i accelerate. It hasnt happened for awhile but i was curious to see if anyone had the same problem or know what it is. It seems like ive been reading that the noise is "normal." I dont understand how thats normal.

Also, are all 350z owners cursed with the feathering problem? what exactly should i be looking for or hearing? will nissan actually give out new tires? i already took my z for 2 alignment jobs and it seems like my car is pulling to the right.

Does'nt sound normal to me... you should bring it in and have them look the engine over to make sure. Has not happened to me.

If your car is pulling one way, that isn't really the feathering everyone is talking about. That just sounds like an alignment problem but it could cause some feathering. Get it checked out though.

*All* 350z's do not have the problem (according to reports on this and other sites). The biggest indicator of the problem is a loud roaring noise during deceleration, starting at ~35 m.p.h. I had my tires replaced when I went in for service and mentioned that it seemed to be roaring a bit at low speeds. Dealer measured the tires (various measurements of the tread) and said they'd put on new tires. It honestly wasn't that loud, but some members have said the noise gets unbearable. Mine wasn't close to that, so I was actually surprised with the dealer's diagnosis. My new Toyos seem nearly as loud.
