Default Service Engine Soon Light

After being blamed for not tightening the gas filler cap, the dealer finally found out why my Service Engine Soon light came on three times in three weeks. Turns out it was an "O" ring on the emissions side that was not seated properly. I only have 1500 miles on the odometer. Am I the first and only with this problem?

Default I have had that problem also.

No, you are not the only one with that problem. I had it before 600 miles & thats the first thing they wanna say is, do you have your gas cap screwed on tight? I have had it randomly come on, then I go to the gas station and fill it up then put the cap back on , start the car & its still on. I just got my car back from having that supposedly serviced along with an idling problem. Oh yes, it sputters when idling. They changed the O2 sensor, gave it back to me & the car still has the problem....

I now have about 3,900 miles.

I think that EVERY single Z sputters a bit while Ideling. I don't know if this is indicative of some major issue to come, but I doubt it. It's just a noisy car at Idle. You have to let it sit at idle for awhile too. Usual it is a Fuel Injector issue, but I believe it is whatever they did to the Intake/Exhaust to get more power out of the car and make it emissions worthy. Bottom line, it sputters A LOT less then my IROC 5.7 Z28 did at idle NEW and I drove that for 150K+ mile no problems.

Thanks for your reply. This gas thing will really prove to be a pain in the neck if it happens again after the fix. My boss's $46K Audi does this, but as soon as the cap is tightened and the car driven a few miles the Service Engine Soon light goes out. I was told by the Nissan guy that the ONLY way to have that light go back out was to have them reset it on the computer.

In NJ it is illegal to pump your own gas. (I think we are the only state that has this law) and most of the gas pump guys either don't speak english or are high school kids. So after a fill up they put the cap on, give it one click and shut the door. I have to open the door, get out, and tighten the cap 5 clicks. The dealer says it has to be 3-5 clicks OR ELSE.

I have no engine sputter at idle. This baby is as smooth as could be.

Safe riding.

The random sputtering is heard outside of the car. I only noticed it while showing the car to my neighbor and I left it on...while I was talking for like 5 minutes. I feel it is nothing to worry about...

Also, be aware that most gas attendants have no idea how to properly hang the fuel cap from the hook on the cover. This ends up causing the cap to rest against your car's finish, which isn't such a good thing...
I can't wait for the day when NJ gets rid of the dopey mandatory full-serve.

madatory full service???.....I never heard of that???? Geez I thought you Jersey guys had attitudes and wouldn't put up with a bs law like that. (I thought one of the most common phrases in Jersey was. "Eh buddy, go do it your freaking self" hee hee

Im in Texas and I don't think I have ever been to or seen a full service station....I thought they got rid of all them back in the 70's.

Who would actually have a career pumping gas for aliving??? Do they do your windows for you to??? Do they have to get certified to be a service attendent??? Does 7-11 have full service too??? Do you have to tip em or pay them more for full service???

I always wanted to say to some one "fill er up!" guess im kinda jealous because im lazy.

I believe Oregon has the same law, so you're not alone.

Yes, in NJ people actually have full time jobs pumping gas!!!!!!!

No, no certification is needed to pump gas. In fact, they are probably the dumbest people in the world. Yes, they do wash the windshield. No, you don't tip. It's all just a part of living in NJ where we have one of the higest per capita incomes in the country. (I, unfortunately, am not among the $$$ people. - Just a poor slob trying to make a living and have a little bit of fun).

Yes, I do pull up to the pump and say "fill 'er up with super". Unfortunately, since they don't often speak english one dope actually filled my baby with regular! Oh what a pain that was. I filled up again at 3/4 tank with super, then again at 1/2 tank with super etc. to try to get a higher octane as fast and as much as possible. I now say "Fill it up with SUPER - GOT THAT SUPER, and watch the guy pick up the proper pump. So that's the story in NJ with the gas.

Spent 1 1/2 hours today on one errand because sooooooo many people had to "tour" my baby.
