Replacement tranny question
It should be an updated one. Nissan has had 8 or more newer versions. You may want to think about a new clutch/flywheel. This may help the tranny from going bad again. Plus it is alot cheaper than waiting to do it down the road.

Thanks for the responses. At this point my tranny has not shown signs of failure but if it is inferior, I wish it would blow so that I could get the one with the stronger design. I don't think I would keep the car after the warranty is up if I feel the tranny could go at any time. Seems like everyone I know, with a Z , has replaced it recently.
I had mine replaced only 2k miles ago. The latest greatest version of the 6mt is still a notchy, clunky mess. Now I see how some guys can go through multiple trannys in a short period of time.

notchy?
i have a 2005... feels like i'm shifting a slurpee, although it's not nearly as loose as my old Skyline was.
it's getting better, but it's not nearly as good as the GT-R's Getrag 6 speed.
