Default Any openings in the Nav compartment when empty

May look to add a DVD player in there when my Z finally gets here.... Is there an opening or hole to run the wires or do you have to drill?

Ok, im not trying to be rude or make this sound like a flame, but why do you want to watch DVD movies in a 2 seat sports car?
I guess I can see it for the passanger, but why not just get a little handheld DVD player for 1/4 the cost, and then they can watch it without distracting you from driving...

There have been a few posts on this before but to summarize...

Like above, it can't play normal DVD's

People have tried to hack into it to play movies but so far unsuccessful. It has been said to share the same system as the Q45 but from what I have seen the Q45's seems more integrated.

It is a factory installed option so you can't order it for your car after it comes in.

You should be able to get something much cheaper for DVD's if you really need it and have a stereo shop work some magic with getting it to look completely integrated. This is what I may do as I would like to get something that gives me engine performance stats much like what I had for the ZXTT.

Hope it helps.

Not just for watching DVD's... Although that would be nice when you are stuck in a traffice jam or are parked somewhere

Also for appearance... It would change the whole look of the center console... Imagine photos displaying or just recording patterns of on a SVCD and playing it to just change the appearance of the console.

Security and safety ...add cameras to back and front of car

I think you can get a unit for under 500.

That is what I will be waiting for. It is like my dealer said (which surprised the heck out of me by passing on $2000) "Just think of all the maps you can buy for $2000!"

Just got a Garmin streetpilot V for 250 and it does everything I need it to. Don't think I would get 2000 out of the factory unit ... but it does look nice. Plus no VCD, movie DVD, or other mod features that we know of

>>It has engine maintenance, keeps track of it. I have not seen this on Lexus, Acura or other Nav systems.<<

What's that? Does that mean you punch in when you had your last oil change and it flashes in BIG letters to change oil when it gets within 100 of 3000....or is it more complicated than that?

If that's all it is...I think I can add that feature with a few parts for less than $100.

>>It also has the 3D viewing.<<

Again. I can't see this feature in too many cities.... prolly just a handful...

I didnt get the nav option on purpose. Here is why:

I will buy a $200 lcd tft screen and put it in the dash space. I will use my kenwood deck and buy a $15 cable to make the changer control plug an input. I will by a 110/12V inverter. I wll take my plastation 2 and put it in the rear center area where I think a changer is supposed to go. I will hack apart a controller and put it in the dash somewhere nice.

Then I will have a dvd/game system in my car for those long drives, or sitting around waiting for the wife..all at a addtl. cost to me of about $250. Should be fun!
