Default is 73mph really that fast????

i have the touring coupe, with the cruise control. and there has always been something that seemed weird to me. wanted to get other opinions out there.

is it just me or does the cruise control seem fast??? reason why i ask is because i tend to tavel a bit to hang with friends down south in cincy, and when i am coming home i use the cruise control to be safe. dont want to get yanked over by the po-po, i tend to have a lead foot after a few beers. well everytime i set it up around 72 or 73 (which is what normal cruising tends to be on I-75 at all other times of the day), i tend to blow away the rest of the traffic. this has happened so many times, it cant be coincidence, cant just be slower traffic.

so has anyone out there ever experienced this, anyone ever done or read a test on the cars cruise control? or am i just being weird??

Hey, you said yourself that you use the cruise control after a few beers! LOL

Try using it during the day...people drive faster when its light out and you won't(hopefully) have any alcohol in your system! LOL

i have used it in the day and the car still seems like it runs up onto other cars bumpers.

yeah i know the idea of driving with the alchy in the system isnt ideal. i didn't post this to get flamed on that. what i am talking about is a few beers, nothing major. any more than that and i crash at a buds house down there. not trying to justify myself on that.

They park those radar warning trailers, the ones that measure and post your speed so you can see it, all around here. I've checked my speed against those, and my speedometer always agrees 100%.

Sometimes I notice that I "run up" on other cars with my cruise control on too. I think it just seems like you're getting close to the other cars because your not in total control of the car. For example, if you weren't using cruise control and you thought you were getting a little bit close, you would ease off the gas a little, maybe only 1 or 2 mph.

To the OP, what's the speed limit on that road?

I've found that comparing the Z's digital speedo to my GPS unit on level ground, the Z's speedo is about 2 mph higher than what my GPS says.

Have one of your buddy's drive next to you and compare the speed.

Just a suggestion.

My speedo is 100% correct all the way up to 144mph. Verified by GPS.

I think ppl in Cincy drive extremely slow, especially at night. I go to Cincy quite often for business trips and I have come to realize that the standard crusing speed is slower than here in Los Angeles. I thik the night time crusing speed is about 67mph. So, if you set it to 73mph, you'd blow by ppls. I have seen so many cops that are hiding on the side of freeways. It's pretty scary.

Well in Southern Cali, I get passed up crusing at 70mph. So I try to keep it above 85 so people don't pass me. I tried setting the cruise control but I can't seem to get it to work... I must be retarded.

I take back what I said about 2 mph over. I checked today briefly and at 70 mph on the digital speedo, I was seeing ~68.5 to 68.7 mph on my GPS. The needle on the analog was pointing at slightly above 70 though.

You actually are traveling "faster" than other vehicle so to speak, but your car isnt going faster. You are letting the computer control your speed at 72mph. A human foot cant hold a position on a pedal the same way over a period of time, its impossible. So when a person lets his foot up alittle he slows down and your gaining because yours is set at that speed.
