Default 350Z shift problems?

I've driven manuals all my life, I consider myself a good driver and have been raised around the track.. Well I pushed my Z for the first time today, it seems as though when I got the pedal to the floor and shift into a higher gear theres a couple seconds where the engine RPMS hang or even go higher. I am granny shifting as well! The split second between me pressing the clutch and putting the car back into gear, the RPMS and the engine revs up. My right foot is completely off the accelerator at this point. I've never had a manual car do this before. From the sound of the engine, it'd make it seem as though my foot was on the gas between shifts (power shiting). Anyone have this problem?

Do we have throttle by wire? Might be that? The pedal doesnt have to be "on the floor" for the computer to think you are at WOT?

I don't think that's normal. Is this a new Z or a used one?

New Z...

I've been told with this car to get it moving you need to pedal to the floor to be in WOT.. When I shift, I remove my foot from the accelerator and quickly upshift. I've never taken it to near redline, but if I do, I'll bounce off the rev limiter if I take it out of gear.

Sounds like something's up with the ECU. Definitely an issue though.

I haven't noticed this at WOT, probably because I'm concentrating on shifting quickly, but when I'm cruising and let up on the throttle to shift, my tach hangs for a second or two. It doesn't rev up but it hesitates before the rpms drop if I shift slowly.

It definitely shouldn't rev up when your foot is off the gas. I agree that it might hang for an instant but that doesn't sound like your issue.

I'd take it to the dealer as soon as you can. You don't want them thinking that you've been power shifting (which they'll say caused the problem) when it's not your fault.

Oh, a stupid question but I'll ask anyway....your accelerator pedal isn't get stuck on your floor mat or anything is it?

You sure it is a second or two. Remember that there is a lot of momentum built up in the flywheel that will allow the RPM to hold for a bit before droping. That is one of the things you will notice if you get a lightweight flywheel which can't hold as much momentum so the RPM will fall much quicker.

I've noticed this before in my z, and I've heard that others have seen this too. When you let off the gas, the rpms might raise slightly. I've heard this makes for smoother shifts. I wouldn't be worried because other z's do it too.

My RPM "hangs" for half a sec or so, but that's natural. I don't think it should accelerate by itself though, your Z has a mind of its own .

Thanks for the responses. Maybe it is "normal", I just never had a manual car do this before. I'm coming from a 97 Supra, 2002 Mustang GT, and 2003 Mach 1. Most manuals I've driven hard have been Toyota or Ford, so maybe the Z is a bit different.
