Break-in Period
The owners manual says not to go over 4000 rpms, brake hard, or accelerate hard.
How close did you guys stick to this procedure?
I just read the break-in procedure in the manual. I got my car Saturday and I've driven it fairly conservative, but I have gotten on it a couple times. Nothing too hard but its been up to 6k rpms at couple times.

This has been covered before, but here are some links that might help you... To answer your question, I would go by the book.

break the car in like its gonna be driven. a couple things that you do want to follow during break in...whether you will drive it hard or not, is stay away from redline and never let the engine stay in the same rpms for more than a couple minutes while driving on the highway. change gears often.

This is the best advice. Break it in by driving how it is going to be driven. This is what the nissan tech says at my dealer.
Break it in by driving how it is going to be driven
Urban legend. Because vehicles are built to dimensional tolerances, some parts will fit tight and some will fit loose - it's just fact. If you over-stress tight-fitting parts they can and usually will gall, damaging them. How much this will effect the overall performance and life of a vehicle depends - but why take the chance? And you believe everything a Nissan tech says? Got some more ocean front property for you in Wyoming.
Race engines are built to precise tolerences and can be driven hard from the first start, but we don't have custom-built race engines in our Zs. And for those who say "I drove my car like I stole it from the beginning and it runs fine", I say "how much better would it run, or how much longer would it last, if you'd followed the company's break-in instructions?" The only reason to rationalize not following them is lack of maturity or lack of patience....IMO.
