Exclamation Sooo the vdc took a crap on me on a turn the other day...

Hey fellas.

I was out for a night of spirited/chill driving during a cool night. The car was pulling like an animal and all was well. I usually drive up and down the mountain near where i live. The twists are awesome. Anyways after I had my fill I was heading back down home when I came up on a pretty fun almost banking turn. The speed limit is 45 (the sugested was 25 or 35 for that turn i forget ;]) and i was doing like 47 or so and I took the corner and the car held but something felt weird, the car felt a little jittery on the turn. I come out of the turn and looked at my tach and the vdc off light is on and the slip light is on solid, not blinking. It wouldnt turn off or on no matter how much i pushed the button. I always drive with it on when taking the turns.

So I had to stop my car, turn it off and then back on again. It seemed to work fine afterward but now im just not sure.

The vdc is awesome and it has saved my stupid self many times. Im just worried that if i take a serious turn it will shut off or go crazy again and then Ill crash .

Has anyone heard of this before??

In the year that I've owned mine, once. The road was wet, and I was travelling fast.
After I shut down and restarted, problem disappeared.

One morning I fired up my baby and the VDC off light was on and wouldn't go off. I just turned her off and cranked it up again and it worked fine. No idea what caused it, but its been fine ever since.

I wonder if the VDC is truly off when this happens or if it's just the dash light that is malfunctioning?

FWIW, when I had my Touring Z with VDC my car did this frequently. Essentially if I turned off the VDC via the button and the did a burn out or any kind of powerslide, drift, etc around a turn....the SLIP light would come on and stay on until I rebooted the car.

I've found two situations where my VDC on my '03 goes into failure mode (failure meaning the slip light won't turn off until restarting the car) -

1. Very agressive driving over rough roads - it seems that once a tire (or two!) get airborne, the VDC doesn't know what to do and just shuts down.

2. Following a VDC-off donut session - after turning off VDC and doing a few spins, it won't turn back on.

I really like VDC - it is always nice to have it there in the background (who among hasn't been a little agressive on the one-two shift and been grateful for VDC pulling the rear end back in!) and it is very nice to be able to shut it off completely!

I always turn off TCS when driving it hard in the twisties. You have to learn the limits of the your car without all this electronic helping crap.

This road wouldn't be Sepulveda or Topanga Canyon would it?

P.S. Never had a problem with my VDC, even in rain. I drive the living #@!$! out of my car too. Be lucky it lasts me five years.

Had the nav freeze once and had to reboot. Not the VDC yet.

If you read your manual, you'll see that when the SLIP light stays on it means "Hey, take it easy buddy."
