Default AT or MT Soon too buy 1~!

Well The onlyy reason i would get a AT Z is b/c of the fact that , iv seen so many Tranny problems Now, im a very "lazy" person and i dont wanna take my car in too the dealer too get fixed alot , But on the other hand I would really love too have a 6 Speed MT Z i mean theirs nothing like going threw the gears yourself am i correct? , Anyways.. Im trying too figure out Which would be better for me. And 1 more thing How fast is the 1/4 mile on the MT then the AT , and the 0-60 on both of them thanks alot!

Not sure of exact statistics, but the mt is only tenths of a second faster than the AT.. You can mod a 5AT to smoke any MT out there. There have been so many AT vs MT threads that it`s getting rediculous. The only way to know for sure is to test drive them both and see how you feel.

Performance difference between the MT and the AT is so insignificant that the choice is just a matter of preference. Test drive both and choose which ever one makes you more happy. If you want to know what we personally drive or personally prefer or if you want to know the technical aspects of the MT or AT then ask away and you'll most likely get a response. As far as asking us what you like or what you should get, nobody but you can answer that, so why even ask? You'll have to make that decision on your own. The best advice anyone can give is just like Sensation350Z said is to just go out and drive both.

I wouldn't worry to much about the tranny problems, most of those were with 03' models and a few early 04's... The manual is only about 0.4'-0.6' secs faster then the AT.

Bottom line is if you drive a lot in traffic or not. If you drive in traffic alot your not going to like the MT in the long run..

Use the forum search. We have this topic come up about once a month and we had one only a week ago.

I think most of the MT tranny probs have been resolved in the 05. Make a seperate posts directed to the ones that have 05 6MTs and see if they still have the same problems.

As far as 1/4 mile times, it looks like they are the same or very close. It's a driver's race. I haven't seen any professional magazines actually test both versions and post times. Search through the forum and you'll see that the times for a stock 6MT and 5AT overlap each other.

The 6MT, on average, does have a slightly higher RWHP rating on a dyno at the higher RPMs because of a shorter FD gear. The FD gear is not part of the transmission gear box. My best estimate would be about 8hp-10hp advantage for the 6MT at the high RPM range. The 5AT is better at staying in the power band, especially in the low to mid RPMs, because of the TC and torque management. The 5AT can also create more torque than the engine is outputting because it can torque multiply.

Again, nobody knows if you'll like one transmission over the other or if you'll regret getting one over the other. Only you know what you like. So don't listen to people that tell you have to get one over another because you'll regret it.

IMO, potential problems with MT should NOT be the basis of your decision. Only a few had the problem. Mine is an 03 MT & it shifts like a swiss watch.

The 6 speed is good unless you suffer the bumber to bumber experence called a highway here in Southern California - or you've got a war injury ... or like me both!

I'm originally from S. CA and the freeways are indeed murder but damn if it ain't all worth it when the freeway opens up and so does your engine.

Arrogance. Why exactly is there "no such thing as an AT sportscar"?

Transmission is purely preferencial.

He did state that "in his book there such thing as an AT sports car"

IMO, that statement is correct - autos are 'cruisers' - You have more control and better feel/connection to the car with a manual. No matter how good the auto tranny may be, the car just won't feel the same as it would with a manual tranny.

Just stomping the gas is no fun - anybody can do that. Manuals are more fun and require a bit more skill to drive - not that I am that skilled with the manual tranny.

in my, more logical book, the AT sports car is very much existance. MT fanboys can say what they want, but the Z is a sports car any way you put it. If you have to get an AT sports car, then IMO, the 350z is your best choice
