Angry 3rd gear synchro problem..

I am getting some grind (normal not hard) shifting in to 3rd. It happens more when the drivetrain is not fully warmed. Very upsetting since the car only has 3000 miles.

Anyone else experienced this??

I am dreading the thought of going to the dealer. Oh well, I guess it is an opprtunity switch to Redline or Royal Purple tranny fluid.

I have a hard time shifting when the tranny is cold as well. And 300's tend to have the same problem... at least my 95 NA, 96 NA, and 94 TT did. Hell, a common problem w/ the 300 tranny was the 3rd-4th gear grind. The well-known solution for both was to replace the tranny fluid w/ Redline MTL and it worked.

I was planning on replacing my tranny fluid in the next few months w/ either Redline MTL or GM SyncroMesh (I've heard from many various sources that it's really good). But if you're going to do it soon, then let us know how it turns out.

Michael.

I put MTL 90 in my mr2 and it worked great for the bad synchros...but that car is out of warranty -- don't mask your bad synchros in a new car with different tranny oil!

Let the dealer rebuild/replace as necessary. There is obviously something defective in these transmissions that Nissan is willingly fixing...

My beauty's in the service department for the same thing right now (along with the passenger side window motor to correct re-seating issues, the bose fix, and Ferodo racing brake installation). The tech called Nissan, they referred him to the regional rep who is investigating another case like mine. My guess: they'll pull the tranny and replace real, real soon.

Take it in ASAP and get it reported, I had to leave mine overnight 'cause it tends to do it only on first drive or after a long time sitting. It hasn't gotten better, it's been this way since 1200 miles, now have 3500.

Default 3rd and 4th Gear

I have approx 750 miles now and I'm experiencing 3rd and 4th gear grinding even when the clutch is depressed all the way. Do you guys think I should wait till my break-in is complete before I check it out again. It only happens once in a while. I know from a previous post I've read that at around 2000 miles the car tranny will feel better. Any suggestions?

Wink New tranny...

If I shift quickly from 2nd to 3rd it grinds 100% of the time.

Dealer already has nissan approval to replace the transmission.

I was concerned that they would try and troubleshoot and have me be without the car for awhile, but its not going to be the case. Appearently the tranny is backordered and may take over a month to get. Either way I'm relieved they're committed to doing the right thing...
