Default Oil brand and weight recommendations?

I will be changing the oil for the first time in my car tomorrow (1500 miles). Can anyone recommend to me a good oil brand and good weight to use (10w-30, 5w-30)? Thanks in advance!

Asking about recommendations here on oil brand is a loaded question - gonna hear every brand that all have had good luck with. For example, I always used Valvoline in previous cars (Rx-7, Corvette, Blazer, Nissan Frontier truck, etc)...now use Mobil 1 syn in my Z....that's just my preference. I feel if you change your oil & filter every 3-3.5k miles, any "quality" oil will perform well for you. Gonna hear horror stories as well about different oils & results - we all have them. Just go with what your experience has impressed on you.

As for weight, either you mentioned is ok...I use 5w-30 due to the area I live. In warmer climates, I prefer 5w-40 or 10w-40. Just my opinion........

The car is under warranty, use what Nissan demands which is 5w30. I don't give recomendations on brands.

Stick to owner's manual. 5W-30 year round. FYI; Nismo actually has an oil for the Z and it is a 5W-40 weight. The theory is that fuel economy requirement for auto manufacturers (CAFE) is the reason we use thinner oils. Some belive thinner oils provide less protections at high load. realistically, you will probably never see the differnence in the real world.
