Post I'll take 'Whats that noise?' for 1000 Alex.

Just got my new 350Z (Black Touring) and absolutely love it. But while idling in the driveway this morning, I heard an odd little noise. I think I know what it is, and I don't think that it's a problem, but I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone else has heard it.

While sitting at idle, the engine running, I hear a very low volume, but fairly high pitched, whining from the rear of the car. Its not coming from the speakers, since the noise isn't there with the stereo on (or off) if the engine isn't turning over.

I think its the fuel pump, which is the only thing that I can think of that is moving behind me while sitting idle in the car, but I dont know. I can't think of any thing in the exhaust system that would make that noise. Same with the rear differential. Mostly I think that it's been a while since I've had a car where I sat so close to the gas tank (or anything else back there.) and I'm just hearing things

Most of the time, you can't hear it over the sweet sound of that engine, but still, I wonder what it is.

Any one else ever hear the same thing?

you are most correctly correct that it is the fuel pump.

Yep, fuel pump. It quiets down once the pressure builds up in the line.
