Default Trade In Values

I am looking to trade in my car and without the dealer haven't even seen it the number they gave was 20,000 for a 2003 Touring 6SPD with 30,000.

I wasnt expecting tons but at least something like 22,000.

Anyone receive a different amount or have anything to say?

If you trade it, you're gonna get bent over. Sell it yourself on autotrader.com or something similar.

Whether you trade it in, or sell it yourself, I'd get rid of any of your mods that make the car look customized / non-stock. In many circles (places other than Z enthusiast sites) that stuff makes the car worth less.

i was quoted 21k on a trade in for a 2003 with 17k miles. i'm sure if i sat and negotiated i could have done better, but i just wanted to test drive a car while my friend was waiting for his to be serviced and the sales dude made me talk numbers for a bit.

I got $21K for a trade on my 03 Base with 8K miles. All depends what your trading in for.

kbb is total crap. Almost never right.

Frankly, I think $20K is a pretty good offer with that many miles. Retail prices I was looking at just 2 months ago for '03 Tourings with half the miles of yours were in the neighborhood of $23K-$24k.

That being said, as has been mentioned, where you are trading and what you are trading for can make quite a difference. But, really, getting more for your trade only means you are paying more for the new car than you should.

Edmunds.com TMV price is your friend.

They determine the price based on actual sales data for your area.

$20-22k seems decent for an 03 trade-in. We *are* talking about a dealer here. They aren't going to give you what it's worth in the real world.

Sorry, but that's crap, too. At least as far as trade-in goes. Yes, it supposedly takes real data into account, but that, unfortunately, includes those who take $5K over allowance on their trade but pay MSRP for a heavily rebated Chevy.

Dealer auction data is the only really true way to evaluate trade-ins. here in the northeast, Galves comes very close, and you can gain access to that over the internet for a fee. Otherwise, there is a nice gentleman named Terry over on Edmunds REal-World Trade-In Values board who evaluates trades based on auction results.
