Default 1/8 mile times

Took my Z to Qualcomm Stadium for the 1/8 mile drag races they do every Friday night. First time ever, it was so fun. Everyone was curious to see how the 350Z would stack up. I don't think I did the car justice.

10600 miles, 37 PSI front, 23 PSI read. temp 62, stock everything.

Run RT 60 ft MPH ET
==========================
1 .770 2.574 74.75 10.136 (VDC on)
2 .682 2.939 74.50 10.451 (VDC off for runs 2-7)
3 .494 2.397 76.14 9.737 (best run, but RL'd by .006)
4 .681 2.424 74.87 9.882
5 .720 2.356 74.74 9.952
6 .670 2.390 75.12 9.804 (1 passenger, vs TransAm)
7 .647 2.434 74.25 9.827
8 .725 2.474 53.00 11.400 (VDC on, missed 3rd)

I was spinning waaayyy too much in 1st and 2nd, look at my 60 ft times.

Does anybody know what these #'s would equate to in 1/4 mile times? Any tips to improve on these times?

Typically, most NA cars will run a 1/4 mile time that is ~1.55 times the 1/8 mile time. Which would make your best run a 15 flat. That sounds about right with those 60 foots. It's all about practice and learning how to properly launch your car. My last car ran a 15.7 @ 87 mph stock, then I added an additional 100 whp, and the car ran a 15.9 @ 101 mph. It's all about seat time, you'll be running low 14's once you master the launch.

HEY!!!! I was there last friday. That **** is FUN. I was gonna go this friday, that would have been siiiieack to race Z's. When I went the announcer dude was like, WOW a Z sweet. Then he said, "I bet this guy is just gonna spin those skinny tires" and he was right. Bastard.

The only thing, your 60' and reactions are *about* the same as mine, as far as I remember. But I was running 9.6. I think the discrepancy lies in the shfting.

I also think that I f*cked my car up power shifting, cuz I have wicked gear whine now. PLEASE TELL ME, if the tranny sounds different at all when you are standing still and the clutch out.

Well, it was definitely a learning experience. And the most fun I've had with clothes on )

I noticed your thread where you pretty much kicked ***, a .550 RT and 9.56 ET or something like that, beating an S4, s2k, and some other worthy competition. Nice job gonz! I didn't powershift or anything. I launched at 1500 through 1st, and shifted before redline for 2nd and 3rd.. I haven't noticed any unusual gear noise other than was already there.

Even though my driving skills just sucked, I did notice I got faster with better comp. Run 1 was against a mid-90 integ with NOS, I think he tried to get a jump on the Z, he had a .350 RT and 10.9 ET. Run 2 was against a 2002 Celica GT, and I did worse with another 10+ run. Although I "won" both times, I felt discouraged.

Runs 3-6 were against this guy named Miles with a 240Z named "Dragonfly" all modded out, and running 9.7-8 all night. My times instantly dropped to 9.8s and were consistent, but I always lost to him by 1-2 car lengths. Then, Run 6 was with Miles in the passenger seat against a TransAm that did a .555 RT and 9.259 ET. I posted my best RT of .647 and 2nd best ET of 9.827.

I'll get in some more practice runs and empty the trunk before next time. I had my laptop bag, my gym bag, a 6pak of water and a 1/2 case of red bull, my detailing bag, and some other crap crammed in the trunk. I hope to do 9.5-6's next time.

twinzz,

Try launching "briskly" on the second light. By that I mean you would launch as if you were at a traffic light trying to get into the next lane with a car beside you. Brisk launch without the tire spinning...know what I mean?

I was able to obtain a .503-.524 R/T and a 60FT time of 2.2+ on stock psi.

I need to get to a track for some of this fun....

I know Ill do horrible, never raced before, but practice makes perfect. I want to like go practice my launches, but... its pretty hard on the car, so I hate to do launches just for practice.
