Default did your Z get faster? (new 05 track model is slow)

I just bought a new 05 track,when i stopped driving and it has just over 100 miles (it had 50 when i picked it up).
i test drove an 05 performance with about 260 miles on it and it seemed way faster and pulled alot harder on the freeway than my track.
I'm hoping my track will be faster once the engine is fully broken in.

So, my question is...did your Z seem to get more power after you put a few hundred miles on it?

Well, I didn't really push the gas much until it was broken in, but after that, it has seemed to feel stronger as the miles add up. It still felt strong though at 700 miles.

yea, i like to break in my engines the "hard" way, mines already seen over 6000 rpm

The '05 Track & Anniversary models come with a different lower intake plenum than the other '05 models. This is one of the differences that allows for a higher HP quote on these models, but I believe the new lower plenum also causes a slight decrease in low end torque...which is going to make it seem a bit "slower" in the acceleration than the Enthusiast you drove. As you get to 5k RPM & higher, you'll feel the pull more in your Track - this is where you'll feel the advantage of the slightly higher HP.

If you have any questions about this, you can contact Jason at Performance Nissan - he's done some testing on the '05 lower plenum for those wanting to replace theirs on their '03 & '04 models. As for an engine getting "stronger" as it breaks in, most of the posts I've read that address this seem to say that the engine reaches full break in around 10k miles. Hope this helps........

yes my engine kept getting stronger, and the tightness it has will loosen up eventually and be smooth as hell. dont worry youll love it!

The way I understood it is, the Track model has 300hp with 260 lb-ft of Torque. The other Z trim levels have a closer hp/tq rating of 287hp/274 lb-ft torque (i believe thats what the site said, I may be wrong on the exact number). In any event, Torque is the whole muscle factor. More torque is more get-go on the fly. HP is just what the engine can reach in overall power. Think about the RX-8. Its got 237 hp, but only 145 lb-ft of Torque? So, it could go like 130mph, but its going to take a second for sure to get there. My Grand Am for example has 164whp/182lb-ft of Torque. I can hussle *** at the street light and have lots of fun in the mid-range, but top end is sorta craptacular.

I've said this in another post and I'll say it again...the PEAK hp/tq doesn't mean much. It's the whole powerband that counts. There was a post a while ago with a dyno chart of the new 300hp/260tq engine...the torque curve was as flat as Mary Kate Olsen. which = more USABLE torque. (The car I mean :P)

you might be answering your own question here. Since the Z engine in the new Track/Anniversary editions are already in such a high level of tune it's probably an even better case for breaking it in easy. The engineers prescribe these breakin periods for a reason. Ever see that episode of "American Choppers" where they took a new bike/engine straight to the dyno? BOOMSVILLE!!!!

i broke in my bikes engine the same way with outstanding results and with a 15,500 rpm redline, i think you could say it's "highly tuned" as well.

Just remember pal, if you want to ingore the engineers, and ignore what most people here suggest, don't come back at 15,000 complaining about how your Z is a piece of ****.

Its your choice as to whether or not you break it in, like the people who MADE it suggest, or be impatient and tear into it right off the lot.

Just remember this down the line if anything happens.

Turn off VDC. (when you're done breaking it in right)
