Sorry to thread jack but didn't want to start another oil change thread. What is the reason for changing the oil every 3 months or half year even if you didn't drive enough miles? I have 1800 miles on the car right now after 8 months, should i wait till 2000 miles or should i just do it now?

Dont believe anything about oil. Its all just a marketing gimmick to get people to spend money. I heard from an insider at nissan that our engines really dont even need oil. Ive got 15k miles and have never put any oil in it. sorry, just in a real sarcastic mode today. Going post to post being a smart azz. sorry. hahah BEN

From what I've been told, if you don't drive 3000 miles in 3 months, just change the oil every 3000 miles rather than 3 months. It seems like a waste to change the oil every 3 months if you only put 1800 miles on the car.

From what I understand regular oil breaks down after about 6 months, however a little different for synthetic.

I am at 1300 miles (4 months) and want to put in Mobil-1 since I have 20 quarts just sitting in my garage,

I waited until I hit 12k before switching to Mobil 1. It made a noticable difference IMO.

I usually go by mileage and not time when doing changes. *Or* i the car starts to feel a bit rough I'll get it changed early.

IIRC, my dealer told me I could change to synthetic after like 1500 miles. I'll probably wait until 3000 miles though.
