Default Overall satisfaction with the Z? Problems?

Recent post of people having trouble with their cars seems to be discouraging to read... and for potential owners, this may turn them away from the Z. It seems that people that are having the problems are the most vocal, while the people with Z's with no problems are not posting anything like "I got no problems" or something like that.

As for me, I have had NO PROBLEMS! Just the ordinary seatbelt rattle and flimsy gas tank lid... but other than that, my car is PERFECT. Oh and it's got orange peel too... but who cares? Most cars on the road do too anyway! And most people don't even know what an "Orange Peel" is.

So let's see with this poll who's satisfied or not.

KEEP IN MIND!!!

I don't consider the seatbelt rattle or the orange peel to be a "problem" as it is normal. I meant "problem" as in... car alignment being off to the right, bose problem, leaking something, etc...

If you guys are wondering... I started this after reading Roberto350z's thread where he states that he really dislikes his Z because it has so many problems, and he wishes he had bought a Honda.

Was very discouraging to read.

I love my Z, she has made me a happy man.

Hey BullishZ do you have a link to that thread? The one with the complaint and wishing for a honda. Thanks.

some issues, but very happy with it. Very glad I picked this over the S2k. I think I was doing a good job selling the Z to the Honda rep at the SF car show. . Imagine this, I'm sitting in a Suzuka blue S2k at the auto show discussing how great the 350Z is to the Honda rep.
S2k is a great car but 350Z is a better car for me
So no, at this point, I wouldn't trade my Z for a Honda.
Now, just need to find a service rep that can take care of my minor issues....

I have had no problems (I don't count the minor sun visor rattle that got fixed). I LOVE my Z and use it every day without problems.

Come on guyz lets pick it up on the poll since a lot of prospective buyers would like to know if you are satisfied with the Z including myself.

Just two problems. It has that little pull to the right and the fuel gauge does not work. But I am very happy with it overall and I am not complaining.

I have a Daytona Blue Track model which I picked up 5 days ago. Most of the issues I have read about on this web site are apparent on my Z. However, I have found (as picky as I am) that they do not detract one bit from the ownership experience (with the exception of the suspension (last point):

1. "My paint has orange peel."

Not an issue: People are too busy saying "Wow!" to notice.

2. "My fuel filler lid appears a different blue at certain angles and lighting conditions."

Not an issue: I hardly ever see that side of the car.

3. "My car has inexpensive plastic interior."

Not an issue: The plastics look fine and the fit and finish is excellent.

4. "The passenger seat belt rattles against the door pillar."

Not an issue: Only at certain times. "Click it!" is the best fix.

5. "My trunk lid cannot be opened with one smooth motion due to the placement of the unlock button. "

Not an issue: Use the keyless entry.

6. "The front end is so low, I've already scratched it up."

Slight issue: But, learn to drive less deeply into parking spaces. And "Yes", I had to learn the hard way, twice!

7. "View out of the rear window is like looking through a letter hole."

Slight issue: Especially if you drive in a busy city, etc. Tip: The door mirrors can become your best friend if positioned correctly.

8. "My front lights have condensation."

Not an issue: In my case, the condensation went away in a couple of days after I picked the car up from the dealer. Still waiting for the first rain to see if it comes back.

9. "My stereo sucks!"

Slight issue: I have the base stereo and it is fine for a base stereo. I agree that the Bose probably was a poor upgrade. Suggest an aftermarket system when you have the money.

10. "I see lots of brake dust on my wheels."

Not an issue: What performance brakes don't dust?

and so on and so on.

Here are two new issues that I have with the car:

1. The doors are very long and they are sprung in such a way that they open in increments, i.e. not progressive or linear. The problem is keeping the door off other cars when in parking lots. Watch out!

2. The gearbox and clutch need time to get use to. The gearbox is rather notchy and heavily sprung loaded. The clutch is difficult to modulate and I'm having a real problem going from 1st to 2nd smoothly. Our Maxima SE has the same issue. I'm looking for both these issues to clear up with miles.

3. Biggest Issue: The suspension at low speeds is truly horrible, almost pickup truck like. Not sure if this is normal for rear wheel drive cars or not. I will definitely be looking for aftermarket shocks and springs. I'd rather have a firmer more punishing ride to the sensation of ripples, porpoising and bouncing. However, once the speed builds, the ride is very nice. In 6th gear, very quiet too.

Well, that's it for now...

i agree with you on the door its a light door and you can easily whip it open and hit somthing.

but is it somthing you diddent adapt to within a few days i did.

that suspension is actully quite good and a bumpy ride is typical for the size wheels you have 17-18.

i dont know if youve ever been in a camaro or a firebird but its a much ruffer ride and lots of rattles and such.

i have a auto so cant touch the clutch issue

Good point! Maybe the wheels make a bigger difference than I would have thought. I have no experience with wheels of this size. However, in some cases, stiffer springs can actually help the ride more than hinder it. Maybe the Z will be one of those cars.

No problems with my Z - I LOVE IT!!!

Now my Bose stereo sucks, and I feel completely cheated. I have the replacement amp on order, and will see how that does. I should not have to have enough money to but an aftermarket stereo that will sound good in my car - I already paid for an upgrade.

imntcrzy,

For the rattle in the rear, check the large plastic nut that holds the spare tire in place. Mine was loose and was rattling like mad in the back. Also, z350z posted about a fix he did for some rattling in the rear strut brace. You may want to search for that post.

I too have the seat clunk (driver's side) and will probably get that checked out next weekend.

What's this about radiators?

about the radiator.... this past sunday I started my Z and notice that the radiator fans were constantly running. Anyways I drove about 7 miles and smelled radiator fluid and temp was rising. I pulled the car over and the engine was steaming on my 3 week old 350z. I waited awhile and put about 2 liters of water in the radiator and about 2 miles later same thing.

Anyways the dealership says that the radiator sprung a leak from the back... so nothing would have hit it. I'm just wondering what caused this and hopefully I don't have any other damage. They say that the vq motor has many fail safe modes so the engine will be fine. Tell that to my aluminum block engine and valve seals and anything else that may be damaged.

Oh well
