almost every one at work kept trying to tell me that nissan only produced X ammount of 350z's, one person even tryed to tell me theres only 5,000 of them.
Your friend may be thinking about the Honda S2000, which is limited to 5,000 per year, or the EVO, which I have heard is limited to a similar number (but that may be a rumor). Nissan always intended to sell as many Z's as they could make a profit on.

why would you want nissan to keep selling these? I hope that sales keep declining, im sick of seeing one everywhere i look.

The more Z's, the better, in my opinion.

Lots of Z's =

cheaper replacement parts
more aftermarket goodies from more vendors
more experienced speed shops who have already practiced on other cars
more enthusiasts to talk to about your car
Nissan has more money made from a sportscar, and therefore more interest in making more fun-to-drive cars
Look at Ford; there are literally hundreds of companies making parts for Mustangs.

downside =

The terrifying possibility that you will be forced to stare at more Z's on the road. That's absolutely awful. Me personally, I would much rather stare at an old beat up Camry than some brand new shiny Z.

bixby... you're the third person I've seen quote a figure of 2404 on the Brickyards. Where did you get this figure? I've tried very hard to verify this, but can find no good source to back up this claim. All I can find are two other threads where someone is claiming the figure is 2404 without really backing up where they got the figure from.

Good question McDuck. I probably got the numbers the same place you did. I'm almost certain that the number was backed up with some form of documentation though.

Either way we know their weren't that many produced and, if I recall correctly, it was a US color only. I could be mistaken though. I know neither of us really cares either. It's just a great color.

I'd guess the 2404 number was extrapolated from a poll of owners on this on some other board. Say 8% of the people polled said they owned Brickyards, then they assumed 30,000 '03s were made and figured that 8% of those were Brickyards. That would give you 2400.

2002 13,253
2003 36,728
2004 30,690
2005/05 12,065

That adds up to 92,736 350Z's as of May 2005!!!!
.
People should keep in mind that these #s are for sales in the US only.

Also, since someone else mentioned Mustang, Ford sold 19,721 of them last month vs. Nissan selling 2588 Zs.

See http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/110794.html and
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/110722.html for the raw #s.

Probably includes Canada too since the sales are reported by Nissan North America.

I don't think the figure was extrapolated... at least not the 2404 number. The percentage of Brickyards from those poles was lower than 8%, more like 5% IIRC. Even figuring 35K units, that would be less than 2000 Brickyards (not saying that is correct, either... just looking for facts here)

I seem to recall one person who posted the 2404 said it was from a documented source of some sort, but never backed up that claim by naming the source.

Bixby... you, of course, are correct... 1st year only... US only... and, without a doubt, the best color you can get on a Z! Of course, I am a little biased.
