Calling All Va Z Owners!
okay the title was a little too much but this had made me furious. today i went to the dealer to straighten out a few things before my car arrives in the next week or so. 1st I told him I didn't want the ugly front license plate on and I told him I would take responsibility for it. Well he said by law if I get ticketed the dealership does because its there responsibility. what BS!
then ya'll know how there is personal property tax here in good ol' va, well i told them i would pay for the car when it comes in and have it titled Jan. 2 so I don't have to pay personal property tax. They say they can't do it. The car is going to have to painfully sit in the showroom for 2 weeks where ppl will scatch it.
Man i'm furious, so what did yall do for these two problems? Any suggestions about the front plate?

It's just your dealership. I've had some dealers flat out tell me they wont put the front plate on because the customers dont like it. Brown's Fairfax said of all the deliveries, only one person wanted the front plate on. In that rare case, they complied. What dealership are you dealing with. The majority of places i've seen haven't put on the front plate. Tell your dealer you dont want it and the customer is always right.

Ok my dealer has been great until all this mess. He gave me the z at exact price 26,200 (base) or whatever and I was very happy with the deal. No add on's whatsoever to the price. The dealer is 20miles south of richmond (right off 95) and its called Dominion Southpark. They sell chevy, nissan, nissan, and some other types I think. I really am disappointed to hear that no-one else is having a hard time. What should I do, I think i'll tell them about what other dealerships are doing and mabey they will shut up.

I'm thinking the dealerhip is disrespecting me because of 2 things
1. I'm only 18 and they don't think I deserve such a car
2. They are all *ucking rednecks that are single minded and only like camaroes and corvettes.
oh, I do love camaroes and vettes, I just cant stand it when some freakin ppl have no appreciation for foreign cars. and; many of my friends are rednecks so don't flame me; but aren't like the dealership ppl. I think up norhern va ppl are much different and understand issues such as these.

I didn't read anything in the vehicle code about the dealer responsibilities. The dealer just wants to cover their ***.. play hard ball.. they don't have to install it.
And why bother with the property tax crap? Its prorated anyways.. so why all the hassle to not pay 2 weeks of tax? (like pennies)

flynnibus- you are right about the dealer and lisense plate; but its not pennies! it will be around 500-600 dollars if i title the car before Jan 1! This is what my pops says and he is a very smart man. I don't know exactly how it works but trust me its true. Never buy a car in late fall/december unless you know about this.

The PP tax is differrent according the where you live - in some places it's what you own on Jan 1st, like Courtland where I live.
In Suffolk (30 miles away) it's prorated so it doesn't matter when you take delivery.
Most dealers would let you "test drive" the vehicle a few days using the dealer's plates but it's up to the dealer - your age works against you here but it wouldn't hurt to try.
I'm not sure the dealer has to add the front plate but I doubt he HAS to - if it's a must get him to tie it to the grill and remove it later. Southpark is near Colonial Heights(I believe) - you don't want to drive w/o a front plate if you live in Col. Heights but I did so quite a while in rural Chesterfield Co. YEARS ago.

Well, first off congrats on getting a Z! Enjoy it!
Also, they don't have to put the plate on. Tell them you won't take delivery if they do, or something like that. Don't let them screw you around!
As far as the property tax... I have no idea!

If your Z is 30k.. thats $378/yr .. or prorated about a buck a day. Given today is Dec 4th.. you do the math =)

you are right except it only right about up to the first 20k, after that its the whole percentage. And in my city it isn't prorated or whatever; whatever I own on Jan. 1 will be taxed fully
But its not that bad i guess, oh well I more excited about getting my z than anything
