Need help picking a car!
Ok, in march i'll be buying a car. Right now it's between the 350Z or the S2000. I know there 2 different cars, but I like them both. I live in Columbus,Ohio so it does snow here but not alot anymore. I really like the Lemanz color, that is sweet. But I don't know which to buy. By the way I'm 19 and it will be my first car that i payed for well half of it. Oh yea I know s2000 or rare, how rare are 350z?

Tough choice. I would go with the 350z, just because it is so damn fun to drive. I've never driven a s2000, but the sound of having to rev the hell of the engine in order to get anything doesn't sound too appealing to me. If you like high revving engines, the Honda is for you. But if you want kick a$$ power anytime you touch the throttle, even low RPM's, go with the Z.

If size is a concern, note that I personally don't fit in an S2000 well being just at 6' and a large frame, but I do fit well in the 350Z. The amount of space inside the Z is incredible considering.
I also personally don't like to hit 7000rmp before the car does something (little overdramatic but hey).
Handling I also found I liked much better in the Z.
Then again, if you want people pushing you into a S2000 you might try a different forum

If you like the twisties, go with the S2000. It handles great out of the box! There are also a lot more go fast mods on the market for it currently.
If you like raw power...the 350Z is your car. But be prepared to spend serious money to make it handle well (very heavy car) and it will be some time before reasonable go fast mods are available.

By the way...if your looking for a good combination of speed and handling, check out the WRX. Doesn't look as good as the 350Z or S2000, but it will give both of these cars a run for their money and costs less!!!
My brother owns one and I have spent autocross time behind the wheel and I was very impressed with the performance vs. dollar.
What do you plan on using the car for? Just a daily driver? Autocross? Straight track car?

Tough one.
I have been looking at both cars for some time now. I was really leaning towards the Z, (style, V6 power and torque) vs. S2000 (convertible, tossable and lighter, hi rev engine).
For me it all came down to economics, I found a 02 S2000 (last week) for 29.5 (more or less dealer invoice) also the Ins was about $ 200 less, and I was able to test-drive a S2000. The Nissan dealers I talked too were not giving out test-drives until after you placed an order with them for MSRP. The model I wanted was the track Z, which would have been about 35K.
I think I will see how the Z gets devolped in the next 2 years and than maybe I will trade up.
This web site has been very helpful; the folks here have been great. I am sure I will see some of you either at Summit Point for FATT track days or out cruising the Blue Ridge Mountains
.
Cheers,
George

Get the Z because the s2000 is like a civic in the low rpms and then when you get up there whoa bang kaboom your gone but until the high rpms you will be sitting there and i think that they are both equally rare
imoh whichever car you get, get it and never look back at what you could have gotten cause then you will be like i could of had this or that .

As for being rare, Nissan is making the 350Z in volume and planning to flood the market, its a mass production car. The S2000 is hand built and extremely rare. Within a year's time, you will see 350Z's everywhere, where you will see maybe a handful of S2000's from now to then.
I think its two different cars, equally as good. Just depends what you are looking for...
I'd have to agree with mav. The thing about the S2000 lacking torque and power below VTEC is very grossly exagerrated (this is like saying the 350Z engine is a lazy truck engine, which I'm sure we can all agree isn't accurate). What is true is that there's a very noticeable difference in power once you hit VTEC - as soon as you hit 6k RPMs, the engine really picks up. This doesn't mean that it lacks power before that, it simply means that the delta is considerable. I've driven many Civics, and the S2000 is most definitely NOT like a Civic at any RPM. As for having to rev it, it's absolutely true that the engine loves to rev. However, keep in mind that it revs very fast and gets into the high RPMs faster than a lot of engines, so you're not exactly sitting around waiting for it to happen.
Anyway, I'm guessing these cars might be rare in some parts of the country, but where I live in CA, I wouldn't consider either particularly rare. In the future, there will ultimately probably be less S2000s on the road than 350Zs, but I don't see why that should be the criteria for deciding which car to buy.
I think overall, if you'd like something that feels faster, and is more instantly gratifying (due to the greater torque) to drive, then get the 350Z. If you'd prefer something a bit more high-strung, then the S2000 might be better. Go out and drive both, and enjoy your decision, but don't make it based on false info.

Well I went into the same dilema S2000 or nothing. I was going to buy a S2000 then I saw the 350Z and well I still liked the S2000 more till I started thinking what I wanted. By nature Im a speed freak its almost cost me my life a few times but damnit the rush is like nothing else. S2000 is limited to what it can do by its engine and by its shape. The S2000 is still apealing though because its a drop top and if you live in a sunny place like Cali itd be nice to put the top down and just hear that engine rev away while you go threw some twisties. But for top speed 350Z is king. And overall the S2000 will be rarer. Its up to you and what your needs and desire's are. Either way you will have a fast hot car that people will oogle.
Oh another factor you can throw in there which actually is important to me is the dealership, you will be dealing with these people and if you arent comftrable with them and their tech staff you are going to be a little unhappy. Unless you enjoy driving to different dealerships hehe

I would estimate that there are probably about 20,000 S2000's around. Based on an initial goal of 5000-6000 per year. I think they have increased sales to 8000 this year. The sales are still going good.
Honda could decide to sell 20,000 next year. I doubt it, but it's possible especially if they start selling automatics. On the same note, I think Nissan should be try to scale down sales of Z's in the next few years.
Point is don't buy a car based on rarity. Buy what you like.
