Default Finally a Z owner!...but some problems

Hey guys...

well after such a long time i finally bought my Z today!

it's an 03' touring 5spAT. so far it has already given me some problems. the first thing i noticed was the center console door wouldn't close (this is very minor) as i believe the springs or the latch was worn out. the second problem seems to be worse. when ever i go at 60+mph i hear a crackling sound on my right front side. could this be my speakers? has anyone had this problem. i should be extremley excited to get the Z but these annoyances have soured my experience a little. i just wanted to know if anyone has encountered this problem or anyone know of a solution.

thanks

welcome, and congrats on the z!

i havent had the "crackling" problem - but if it happens only when you go over 60, then it most likely not the speaker - if it were, it would probably occur all the time... and other clues on what is happening when you hear the "crackling"?

it's weird...it sounds somthing electrical...but only happens when i go over 60. nothing really happens..it just gets louder as i speed up. it's quite annoying and it's putting a damper on my Z experience.

The factory warranty should still be in effect. Take it to a Nissan Service Dept., they may be able to figure out what's happening. Where is the crackling noise coming from? If it's coming from your speakers, it may be your bose system. There is a TSB out to replace defective bose sound systems. If it's coming from your engine, something's wrong...

well the sound seems to be comming from the passenger door side. and i didn't know before i bought the car as there was no freeway nearby to take it at a good speed (fastest i went was 40).

i'll go research on bose tsbs and see if there are any with similar problems...

Try checking some of these. Check to see if your passenger side seatbelt is in the belt holder. It might be rattling against the pillar. Check for tire feathering. A feathered tire makes a lot of noise. Check your stereo and electrical grounding. Check the little short springs in the hatch. It they are blown out the hatch will rattle against the car. Check your spare tire mount. There is a styrofoam holder that will make a crackling sort of squeaking noise if it is not screwed down all the way. It comes loose sometimes.

Yeah, those rattles and sounds are annoying hope you find it.

I think when you buy any sports car with a 5AT tranny there's a little timer that makes the car fall apart on you to teach you a lesson........or maybe that was just my proposal....not sure

Another possibility is the defroster grille is rattling. There is a Technical Service Bulletin on that.

Cool

Turn your audio system off and go over 60.
if the noise is still there then it's not the Bose system.

Live and learn, from now on, never buy a used car without taking it on the freeway. NEVER.

When I was looking with my girlfriend to buy her a used 03 civic, we test drove some guy's civic and it made a really weird whirring / sucking sound when you pressed in the accelerator... I didn't notice it until we went on the freeway.

yeah...i admit i should have taken a serious test drive. on another note the dealership called me up today and said they'll lower my apr .5% with no changes to the original contract. at least that's some good news for me.

but HEY i see you're in UCLA! i work at the ucla replacement hospital over at westwood as a Project engineer...are you the black Z i keep seeing parked in lot 9?
