How Much Do You Pay to Gas Up the Z?
So you can feel very very happy about the gas prices in the US.
While I agree with this to a point, I have spent about half a year in Japan as well, and the gas prices are Euro-level as well. It made me think about it, but here in Southwest Texas, and for that matter, most of the Central/Western sides of this country require cheap gasoline for the daily functions of life. If you leave Berlin and drive west for 5.5 hours, how many countries do you cross? How many cities? How about east? Or south?
Heck, if I drive 5.5 hours in any direction but south from Del Rio, I'll still be about 3 hours from the border of Texas, only passing a half dozen cities TOTAL. And this is on major highways.
Mass transit doesnt exist here in this part of the country. And if it did, it would be a flop for a non-socialist economy. It almost seems to me that the current way of life in America is predicated on cheap petroleum.
And in other, non-out of my pocket news: I flew to Colorado Springs and back today. We burned 700 gallons of JP8 and Jet A+. That stuff is about $4.50 a gallon.

it costs me 160 to fill up my suburban...
oh this is canada and it's now 1.10$/litre
edit: oh and did I mention that i'm using 87 octane?
160 c$ is about 135$ us btw
We have the opposite problem. All I've seen for the last couple of days is regular, no premium or middle grades of gas.
The Exxon station near my house has been closed since the hurricane. That's totally f'cked up because we're in Baton Rouge, the home of one of Exxon's largest refineries.
