They got me...those bastards!
This argument seems to be pointless. Let me just summerize, we don't make much money on our red-light cams comparing to the tax-revenue from businesses. Our accidents rates went down. You can post facts and stats from other cities all you want. That won't change the stats that i get in my cities. Not only that, the stats you guys are getting seems pretty bias. Not all cameras bring in millions but of course the reporter won't present that as evidence. If you guys want to base your opions on one side of facts than go ahead.
the total number of intersection was four, one was removed because it was not effective, so now we got three intersections.
Anyways, you guys can argue all you want, I've seen both side of the arguments and facts and I still stand by our cities decisions.

The newer cameras, like the ones used in Gwinnett county Georgia, don't use a flash, so its useless.
Oh yeah, Red means stop.

You say, "Our accidents rates went down." But thats' not entirely true. The number of accidents went down in 3 of the 4 intersections, and you don't know nor understand why either way. 25% failure rate and how much in fines for what? Nothing. Thats' one in four violations that did, well... nothing. Like I said, sell me on this.
What were the accident rates for the intersections (last five years before cameras) ? How long have the cameras been up and what have been the accident rates post cameras?

belive in what ever stats you want, but in my city accidents did decrease and I'm happy I did my part to help saves lives. If it takes fining a person $150 (which is our price) to save lives than I'll live with that.
It may seem like I'm coming down hard on you, but like I said, sell me on these things. I'm not going to simply accept that they've saved lives, reduced accidents, etc. and take your word for it.
I give you two points... one, you stated that the yellow time was 6 seconds. I don't know the speed limit of the roads, but unless these are 55 mph roads (doesn't seem so), then that amount of time is about double what it is here. Also, the amount of the fine ($150) is less than half of what it is here (someone posted Gardena was $351, and Inglewood is $341).
I'd like to see the grace period extended to 1 second (typcially it is 0.2 seconds, sometimes +/- 0.05) before a person is ticketed. Times of 0.2 catch those who misjudge, such as the thread starter who thought he was going through a yellow. Even if he was pushing it, he did not intend (nor see a red light) and decide to blow it.
Not in your city, but in many others the yellow legnth is determined by recommendations (not law) based on calculations involving road speed limits. These spped limits are too low (and don't reflect actual traffic speeds), thus the calculations and yellow length are inadequate (too short). I know, you all drive not a hair over 55mph on the freeway

Extend the grace period to 1 second and I won't even ask you if rear-end collisions increased at any of the intersections. I won't even repeat my question about why fake cameras weren't used at these intersections like at the other ones.

I understand there has to be rules, but they have to be fair, and there has to be solid reasons behind them. If you feel the thread is pointless, don't bother answering any of the questions in this post. If you truly do stand behind your decision, then feel free to take your time and post some numbers.

When you choose to ignore the facts produced by a myriad of studies and one done by the Congress, which has a short summary posted a page back, then it is pointless to continue this discussion.
It is a free country so go ahead and believe in your little fantasy.
I'll continue with believing in facts.
