Everybody take a deep breath!!
With the release of C&D and these early numbers there has been a firestorm at the site. Also there has been a substantial increase in the number of new members as many of us predicted.
First I have to say that with all the new information and members that the discourse has been on a great level. It's not turned into a flame fest and i give credit not only to Jmanz and his crew but to ALL members for keeping an adult level of discusiion here.
Now the point of this thread:
Everybody should step back, take a moment and relax! This the first of many articles on the Z! I understand the the drought of information makes us all want to jump on the first news and run with it, but as long time members here know things do change.
Jmanz and others have had very reliable and accurate information since I have been on this board. I have read their posts since the article has come out and am very willing to wait this out to get different points of views.
I think once the full picture is out there the vast majority of future Z owners will be very pleased!

In total agreement. Being that I was a member on that other site these times pass... Lotta frustration at first then as more information comes out and the car really starts molding into what it is people start calming. I remember when this happen when the concept was released. People were going crazy because it didn't look Z enough. I think everyone can agree now that the 350Z is probably the most beautiful Z to date. Deep-breath...
Read that C&D article again and read what is being said even from the people who didn't like it... "this car rules"

Maybe a poll to see who is REALLY gonna race this car. These are probably the only ones, I may be wrong, who are so concerned about the weight. Once we find out that only 100 of us REALLY want to race the Z, the rest of us will take up a collection for them for add-ons to bring the car up to their expectations.
Not trying to flame here, but, relax, this is only a car, your not marrying it..... it think.

I'm with you on that bgerber911, i'm not a racer and the only things i will do to the car is keep it nicely tuned and beautifully maintained.
That'll do pig, that'll do.

I log 1500-2000 track miles per year. Damn right I am concerned about the weight. I think this weight is the problem with platform sharing. Instead of being a purpose built sportscar it is a sedan turned into a sportcar and as such it is pretty hard to bring the weight down. I guess it goes hand in hand with the low price. It still amazes me that a Z06 only weighs 3150 lbs, but it is on it's own chassis shared with nothing else. I can't wait to see what R&T gets out of the car. Out of all the mags I like R&T the best, so we'll wait and see.

For those who are racers I can see why you would be concerned with the most recent information. If the numbers do improve when other mags or when Nissan releases the numbers it may alleviate some of your concerns.
However, if those concerns are not addressed, doesn't the question then become: Will I still be able to enjoy the experience of the car outside of a race/track?
Obviously as a non racer the answer for me is Abso-frickin-lutely!
If the answer for you is no then perhaps your racing needs will need to be met by a different vehicle. Clearly there is no answer that will please everyone. The beauty of it is that the choice is yours and yours alone to make.
And no one, no one, should have any issue with whatever decision anyone makes.
(Now I shall step off the soapbox. Thank you all, drinks will be served in the lobby, where you can purchase my book for $9.95. If you want it autographed it will be $49.95)

We're not the evil empire and we're certainly not just crying over some spilled milk. The weight thing is serious business once you hit the track. I was considering stripping the Z and racing it in a few years, but, if the weight is a problem then like you say I will purchase another car for this purpose. All I've been saying is that I would (are you listening Nissan) rather race a Nissan than any other Japanese manufacturer.
Again, thanks for listening to our point. A racer sees a car in a very cold and technical light, that's not necessarily bad, it's just different.
No problem Flyingscot, isn't it all about what we as individuals and consumers want or don't want in a product.
You have a very definite need and were hoping Nissan would meet it! Yours and other racers criticisms are based on a very specific need and desire for the car. And for you specific demands the Z, at least as it stands now, ain't cutting it!
I have seen enough of your posts and know where your coming from. But the majority of the negativity is coming from those whose point of view is unknown because of their "newness" here. And i suspect many of them do not have your racing point of view.
Anyway I'm off the soapbox again!
(Remember get your autographed books at the lobby for the low, low price of $49.95)
