Cool Questions from a Z Wannabe

OK, I'm ready to go take a test drive, but I'm completely confused by the range of different Z's that are out there. I see a coupe, an enthusiast, a performance, a touring, a track and a roadster, all for different prices.

Is there a substantive difference between all of these models? What would be a good analogy using another car company? i.e. is this like the difference between the Bimmer 325 and 330?

The coupe starts at like $26k. Is it smart to get the coupe and do your own upgrades or start with a stock performance ? And how different are they, in reality?

Are any of the interiors leather?

Thanks in advance. (If this has already been addressed on this forum, if someone would post the link here that would be really )

All the cars have the same motor and horsepower for the most part except the new 35th anniversary and the track edition (?). The differences are options. I went with the performance model (which will not exist in 2006) because it had LSD, VDC (which I hate, ) and the 18 in. wheels. Just go to nissanusa.com and look at the differences.

It is confusing I know. However, as I found in when I bought my 2005, the base coupe which starts at 26,500 i think, has the exact same engine as the most expensive one. That is what is important to me...especially since I like aftermarket wheels. It also comes with power everything and is a great bargain. Of course you don't get the big brakes and nav, and the lsd....but you even get a tire pressure guage...all for that low *** price. I am very happy with my base model because it has everything I wanted and nothign that I will ended up replacing after the modding begins. good luck.....don't know much about the 2006's

I think enthusiest is the best way to go if you're planning on modding. It is exactly like base but it has some amenities you'd appreciate like HID, homelink, TCS and LSD, all of which are almost never in the beggining of the To Do Mods list. Its only about 2000 dollars MSRP greater than base, but it comes with some very important things that the base model doesn't have.

Go to Nissan site for detail on differences.

The best buy of the bunch is the Enthusiast.

That is true. I believe the only model that comes with leather interior is the Touring edition, although the 35th Anniversary edition might as well. I looked into them once and they didnt intrest me, so I never looked at them again.

Surprising that a car with such a cool exterior would only offer cloth seats. I'm shocked, quite frankly.

Is manual less expensive than automatic?

Cloth seats are preferable in a true sports car, leather are preferred in a luxury oriented car IMHO. Also leather seats will add weight to the car. To give you an idea, the track edition comes with cloth seats only and is supposed to be oriented for maximum track performance.

Goodluck with your decision.
