I took my car to Autozone and they checked the alternator and they told me it came back with a Bad Diode Pattern.

I bought it in Oct 2002 it's got just under 30,000 miles but I have the 100K warranty. Do you know how long they cover alternators?

Hmm....bumper to bumper is 3/36, so you're out of that one. Drivetrain is 5/60 (if memory serves), but I don't think alternator falls under that one. Is your 100K warranty a drivetrain warranty or bumper to bumper? I tend to be very leary of the fine print on these exteded warranties. I knew a guy who bought an extended warranty (not for a Z) and upon having to have an o-ring replaced in his tranny, came to find out that the warranty only covered parts. The $0.50 o-ring was covered, the $2000 in labor came out of his pocket.

That's a very good question I don't know if it just covers parts or parts and labor. I guess I should ask Nissan about this tomorrow.

Yep...call whoever backs the warranty. If the dealer backs it, talk to them. If it's a Nissan warranty, talk to them. I wouldn't sweat it too much though. Alternators aren't terribly expensive if you have to buy it yourself.

I priced one on courtesy parts and it was around $280, might be able to get one cheaper somewhere else. I should have gotten this diagnosed long time ago when I still had plenty of warranty left and not as much "stuff" on my car...

I just took the car to Nissan today and they said that it was just the negative battery cable, they said that the battery cable was just barely hanging on. When I had it at Autozone it didn't look to me like it was loose at all. I'll see if this fixes it.
