I was recently reended in my sb z and it needs to get repainted. I figured since its an 03 and has quite a few swirl marks and rock chips i should just get the whole thing repainted. How much do you think i will pay to get the whole thing repainted in sb paint and be a high quality basically like it is brand new from the factory.

Most of the time the insurance company will only pay for a new bumper, because It would be my guess that that would be the cheaper way to go. No one can really give you advice unless you post up some pics for us to see. Also, a new paint job will indeed be in the area of $4000-$6000. It will be closer to 6k if you go through a dealership and closer to 4k if through a private shop. I would reccommend getting tons of estimates from the highest shops around you can find, and then taking that to the insurance company, they always try to rob you if you don't come prepared. You may be able to work out a deal with the shop you fix it at too, say....they could write that bumper pretty high and then you could go back and some of that cost would cover painting the rest of the car. I bet you would maybe get like $500 out of the insurance company though, best I can do without a pic.

I just got an estimate of $5000 to repaint my SB ZR from a very reputable shop.
They said they would remove/reinstall the front end, headlights, door handles, etc, etc. to insure the job was factory perfect. Also repair all chips and scratches.
I'm wondering if I should use a different type of paint; the nissan paint has always seemed "soft" to me-more susceptible to swirls and scratching. Same color, of course. Any thoughts?

I was in the exact same situation (hit a deer) I had my car towed to one of the best shops in town (they do the cars for nopi) the quote to have my car totally painted was $2,000.. that doesn't include the entire front end that the insurance is paying for.
Since I bought an aftermarket bumper and already had an oem hood and headlights I'm only paying $900 which includes the $500 deductible from my insurance. The finished product is actually better than the stock black paint.

OK, oem paint is substandard-Z BOY is 100% correct. Assuming I'm willing to pay for premium, what is a good alternative to nissan super black that won't make the engine bay and other non-new-paint areas look like poor stepchildren?

I don't want to repaint the engine compartment and subframe-basically taking the car apart, removing the engine, etc, so as to paint the engine compartment is EXACTLY what I'm trying to avoid. I'm looking for a vhq paint for the panels that will hold up a helluvalot better here in the AZ desert than oem w/o making the nonpainted areas look like ****. I take good care of the engine compartment, keep it clean and looking sharp. I just don't want it to look bad.
