Thumbs down Ranting: Yes the interior is a POS

I use to stand up for the quality of the Z's interior. Sure it wasn't great but I never really thought it was as bad as people made it out to be... until now. My car is 2k miles out of b2b warranty (38kmiles) and my passenger side door handle came off last week. WTF is up w/ that?!? I was taking a girl out on a date and when she was closing the door the handle flew off, how timely. I went to the service dept knowing there was little I could do. I *****ed at them for a while arguing that no car especially their flagship should have the interior falling apart in 2 years. So now I have to find time to get the car in there to fix it. I am assuming it is just some cheap plastic piece inside or maybe the whole door panel, who knows. Regardless I don't see getting out of there for less than a couple hundred bucks. This has me considering trading up for a G coupe or 3 series. I shouldn't have to put up with this kind of crap.

**Rant off

To me if you're willing to give up your car just for a handle breaking then i don't think you ever really loved ur car, and maybe you should give it up...Granted a handle shouldn't break off, but it's not something that i would ever give up my Z for. I love my car and couldn't imagine trading it for ANYTHING.

damn...that's some embarring shyt right there....but if you were a Gentleman, you would have closed the door for her....lol....then MAYBE she wouldn't have seen the door handle come off!

And STILL we have all kinda peeps posting shyt like "I'm looking at buying an '03 Z...for $XX,XXX , is that a good deal?"

I would write a letter to Nissan about that shyt, on the serious tip....That's a serious QC issue that probably wouldn't happen to a damn GM car, so that's REALLY sad, IMO.

Yea...that sucks, but trading in something b/c of that is a bit drastic.

Come on people, I am not seriously considering a trade purely based on a door handle. However I also demand better quality or customer service than this. In a case like this Nissan should stand behind their product and replace it for me. This is my second Z, I try to be active in the community, I am the kind of customer a company needs to try to keep.

Back before I owned a Z I was kind of a Z hater. I had only briefly seen the interior and thought how lame it was. Then I drove one, and then proceeded to buy said Z immediately.

I must say I like the interior of the Z. Sure I wish it was made with some more higher grade components, but what the hell.

I think it's way better then the 300ZX which was in the 40s back in the day. It's certainly better put together and feels more solid then the new C6.

I don't know what the interior door panels are made out of, but I like it. It's really easy to clean, doesn't seem prone to cracking either. The worst parts are the hard plastics on the dash, I wish that was something else.

The interior is very ergo, extremlly functional, and minimalist in nature.

Considered against most cars in it's class, the Z is top notch.

Sure the Audi A3 has a nice interior, but it's a slow econo car.

Totally off topic...but sometimes I think I'm in a world of my own.
I don't give 2 shlts about the quality of the interior. I could be sitting on a cardboard box on the floor as long as the thing handles like it's on rails and goes like a bat outta hell.

I always read reviews on car sites that state "interior not up to par" or "low grade interior components." I' always think WTF...I'd much rather a car company put $5K into the engine and take it away from the interior. I don't need leather underneath my a$$, I need more horses pulling my a$$ along!

I don't know...I'm the kind of guy who said "FINALLY" when they made the lotus Elise, while everyone else was saying...."but where are lumbar supports?"

I understand your thinking. The Europeans really care about this kind of stuff. You take a look at an Alfa Romeo or just about anything rolling out of Italy the Uk or Germany, and they put emphasis on interiors.

Top Gear frequently blasts American cars due to the interior sucking. They make the point that is where you spend the time in, so why wouldn't you want it to be nice. They are old world craftsmen so that can be understood.

For me the Lotus is a car lacking of any and all practicality, so the spartan interior makes sense.

The Z is not an elise. I do like the spartan interior of the Z, but wish the components were of higher quality. I personally hate cheap hard plastics.

For kicks go sit in a new Escalade and knock on the dash. It's totally hollow, made of cheap hard plastics. Total garbage, espically considering the price tag.

I think the Z gets a bad rap though. I think the interior is well put together, even if the individual parts are somewhat cheap.

Even on the Elise you can get leather on your door panels

dlaw300z, is it possible that you can post a picture of the handle/door so we can see how it came apart? Thank you.
