POwer Shift???
Power shifting is when you dont lift your foot off the gas pedal in between shifts. Make sure you shift as fast as possible when doing this and you will have butter smooth shifts and you will also gain about .2 seconds on your 1/4 mile.
paging alberto....he should be able to give you the best answer, but it is when you shift without every lifting off the gas, you just slam through each gear so fast that you don't need to let gas.

Power Shifting is when you lift up on the Clutch pedal while the RPMS at a higher RPM needed to match the actual RPM of the Speed you are going...
example...
TO power shift from 2nd to 3rd... Lift the foot off the clutch when you are pressing the throttle keeping the RPM's up high...
Is that clear?

yea me and bert are both on our 3rd transmissions. could it be from powershifting...? Ive gotten kind of supersticious over the whole powershifting thing since my trans broke in ocean city and i had to drive back home in 4th gear. But yea its a great way to pick up speed and drop time. Theres not much to it.

If you are running the JWT set up that will take more of a beating then the trans since it has a center sprung disc and the clutch material will slip easier...
I've twisted an input shaft on my Firebird Powershifting. Ouch !!!!
Now I had it hardened with better material. I wonder what will be the next piece to go?
Let's face it, if you race it, eventually you'll break it.
It's a good thing that I like to break stuff !!!!
As soon as I get back to work I'm going to break some more stuff !!!!

If powershifting makes your clutch slip but does not make your wheels spin, most of the additional force was dissipated in the clutch via friction.

If your wheels are unable to spin and your clutch is ultra grabby, yeah, you'll probably f--k up your transmission.
As it stands, I highly doubt a stock Z would be damaged from powershifting. It doesn't take much to break the tires loose, and the clutch slips pretty easily as well.

Well, the viper has a really torquey engine, perhaps the strain was just too much on the tranny.
Not all the force will be dissipated as friction in the tires or clutch, some of it will be lost in the transmission obviously.

No, because there is a rev limiter. It will stop at 6600 rpm. In fact, the Z's engine can easily handle 7100rpm if it is tuned properly and you reflash the ECU to allow you to do so.
Maybe someone can chime in: don't they test our engines by running them at redline for like a week straight? Or is that another car brand?

A few days after I got my car I was goign WOT onto the freeway on ramp... hit the top of first gear, to 2nd gear, and when I went to shift into 3rd it actually went into 3rd... The rear end broke loose as the rear wheels locked up and the tech went all the way over as far as it could... quickly pressed in the clutch...
did it again a few days later...
and then again a couple mins after that....
63000 miles my car is runnin damn strong still!

And btw like I said I wouldnt blame my tranny failures on my powershifting obviously the Z had issues with tranny's at first. I perfected my powershifting on a 1990 81hp Dodge Colt, I powershifted that thing 50-100X a day for 1 year never had tranny problems, but I did burn through 2 pep boys high performance clutches Thread
