Sometimes you pull the short stick, sometimes you cut the stick short. I've been that stupid before though. I'll stick to lookin' pretty in the car.

I don't know if I really aggree with that statement. When I was 17, I was driving an '85 Mustang 5.0. Not exactly a 30k sports car, but for it's day it was pretty fast.

Now, this car handled like crap in comparison to the Z, so in many ways it was a much more unsafe car. Airbags? ABS? VDC?? What's that?

Any 20year old can get up to 100mph in pretty much any car out there today. For every story of a 20year old in a Z killing themselves, there's 100 more with the kid driving an accord, camry, jetta, etc etc.

It's not the car....

yea i wont be street racing for a while now. but its definitly not the car....every car can go 100 miles an hour...i can do 110 in my toyota corolla....an accident is totally dependant on the driver not the car....if u cant handle the car they way ur driving it then dont drive it like an idiot

I agree with this statement, it's not age it's experience that matters. I have seen some young pro racers who can flat out drive circles around people twice their age. Knowing what to do and knowing what NOT to do is what matters the most.

We should hold a drift event in the name of emergency maneuvers and safe driving techniques. The only way to know what to do when you spin out of control is to spin out of control on purpose. I miss the skid pad @ Streets of Willow.
Keep it on the track and the public roads will be safer.

Default We're still doing better than the turtles......

People will die at all ages of all causes. It is all part of the balance of nature. With every benefit in life, there will be a cost. For the benefit of high speed transportation, there are all the costs too. Sure it's tragic, but is it really any more tragic than a new born baby seal being eaten by a polar bear? Human beings may be more sophisticated creatures, but we can not escape the inevitable balance in nature.

As for driving 100mph on a public roadway, it can be done very safely if you exercise proper judgement. (dry pavement, empty road, good surface, etc) Usually when something like this happens, it is usally a bad combination of factors that come into play rather than just one single thing. Let's face it, speed is fun, and you can't always get to a track. I've been driving for 23 years. I have driven a lot, have always owned fast cars, and have always driven fast. Never even had a close call. I'll drive 100-130mph on open highway, in good light, and good weather, with the proper speed equipment on my car. I cringe at the idiot who tells me I'm being dangerous and then goes driving at 65mph in a blinding rain storm when I am hovering along at 35mph with my hazard lights on.

Hey, if you are that worried, why not just live your entire life in a padded room, and you'll be sure to live long. As for me, I'll have fun, use judgement, and take some CALCULATED risks.

Only 2 out of every 3000 turtles hatched lives through adulthood. Most die in infancy. As a species, we still do pretty well.

The driver did not "pass away" due to injuries. He died due to stupidy. Just glad he didn't take anyone else with him.

I've been made bad choices when it came to street racing as well. Lucky a few pull overs by the police made me change my mind. Luckily I got off with warnings too. Maybe because I'm pretty? haha

Anyways I was racing in my Civic 4 years ago in the rain going 80+mph against a Cadillac and long story short I skidded at a 45 degree angle downhill towards a Red Light and I thought we were going to die. Luckily the car stopped 10 feet before the light and we were unscathed.

I'm not a bad kid or anything; I just liked to race when the opportunity arised.

I have not street raced in 2-3 years and don't plan on to anymore.

Infact since owning the 350Z, I haven't even raced a fraction of the amount I used to in the Civic or GTI.
