Who else hates the Badgering??
I've driven stick and auto all my life. Stick has more potential problem areas than auto. In an auto you don't need to worry about rolling into the guy behind you on a hill, when you can't get it in gear quick enough or your clutch is slipping. Stick is a lot more maintenance.
I drive auto now cause I like it and I've got a beat up body from too many hard years. Autos have always improved and there are plenty of auto race cars.
Okey Dokey?

Because on a hill you just do a mini-launch and you'll be right off..
and on the hill I'm always in-gear so just a blip and let go of the clutch and im right off, if its mt. everest then i'll just do a heel-toe launch and i'll be right off...
I always thought about owning an auto when I'm stuck on the damn jammed free way but then the second i get going and get started i forget alllllll about the negativities of a manual shifter! Sure you might hate the "heavy" clutch but its a nice work out for my left leg ^^ ... and heel-toe shifting is like being a drummer, working on my reflexes and reactions ^^!
With VDC status "OFF" the stick shift becomes a different animal compared with auto! The burnouts, donuts, launches... I just dont think an Auto is up for the things an automotive purists is up against..
Anyway... my mother drives an automatic Accord and her car is ZzzZzzz...
The manual experience is nothing but spectacular!
Another thing with SMG type trannies... parallel parking or close space manuverability is horrible on those vehicles!
Being bigger than the average bear makes the badgering go away. If I would have bought the Z 5 years, 10 months and 29 days ago I might have bought a standard but since about 1:00 on that day I haven't enjoyed moving my legs very much ... let alone sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for 20-30 minutes at a time to move the mile or so past an accident in SoCal. That much clutch work would be killer pain to me.
I either had to give up the pain meds or lose my charming personality

If you are such an "automotive purists", why don't you take out your Air conditioner, get rid of your power steering, and drive a car with a carburetor instead of a computer chip ECU? Give me a break.
Oh, yeah, an auto can do all the things you mentioned, Burnouts, donuts, launches. Just do a search in this forum and you will see.

You cant win in these situations. I started with having a auto 03 Z and getting crap for "nissan's trademark is shift" so why didnt you get a manual ( even though I didnt know how to drive it ). Then I get constant baggering from random people in the most ackward circumstances for "what mods do you have". Honestly their equal in how annoying they can be.

agreed. smg offers two shift modes sequential and automated. in automated
mode it operates just like an automatic and does not require paddle or rocker
switch shifting. the technology is indeed far superior to an automatic and
manual IMO. but some will also argue that anything not requiring a manually
operated clutch is an "automatic". their idea being that automatic refers to the
automated operation of the clutch by drivelogic and not simply automatic gear
selection. smg is a true hybrid. not auto or manual in the purest sense.
i think the reason most people ding us for not having a manually operated clutch
is b/c they think we are short changing the car and not getting full performance.
for example auto or hybrid gearboxes butcher shift points or are sluggish in the
selection of gears. obviously not the case in well-designed system. stats show
smg can complete shifts as fast as 80 milliseconds. but most people just think
no clutch = auto = sucks. smg disproves that myth.

Awsome info, I could not have done better!
I think its a waste to buy a true sportscar with an automatic tranny...Not SMG or the like just plain ole slushbox...It takes the involvement out of driving...Takes a measure control out of the driving experience and thats what sportscars are all about...That being said, thats why mfgs offer two gearboxes...Manual for serious drivers such as myself....And autos for those that are gay.
Haaaaay Albopballer...You go girl..

My old miata used to be a straight auto with no manual mode. it was still a
blast to drive though. that car is so light and easy to throw in AT or MT.
but with the miata you aren't really talking speed either way; MT or AT. it's
rather slow and underpowered compared to our standards. 0-60's in the 7+
range. with that car it's all about the handling.

At work I get the same compliments...but...
"whoa, its an automatic"...."oh? its auto?"....."wow, they make those in auto::comes a sigh::"
Its almost like the biggest blow to your existence, they walk away feeling disgusted, and i look at them like wtf do you drive? AND 99% of them have AUTO cars. Maybe they are not Sports cars but they are none the less auto's and this isn't fudging Europe either.
Back check: I never was taught an auto, never grew up into imports, my whole family is employed in Ford, CHrysler, GM. Im currently employed in a Tier 1 supplier to GM. Growing up, it was all auto domestic cars, and a lot of my buddies of other nationalities grew up and learned stick becuase they all drove Honda's and Toyotas, funny thing is my parents are from Yugoslavia, and all they drive there is stick, but still...I never was taught.
So everyone...please show some hate, or some bonding, or just say what you will about this issue, i f***ing bought a 38,000 car and "oh its an auto?" but if it was a grand prix GTP or Cadillac CTS-V, oh thats no problem...Is it really my fault i loved the car and purchased it in Auto
. It really hurts to get feedback like that, anyways have a good one everyone.

Heh, i get that "Auto? Huh" all the time. Most of the big drag cars and top 1/4 vehicles are autos. I live on a really busy Hy and wasn't about to drive a stick every day. Plus, my car runs just fine as an auto. I don't miss shifts but, i may hit the rev limiter every now and then.
Cheap insults = What insecure people do to make themselves feel better

I think it's an insult that you are able to drive the same car as me, and it be an automatic. Grow a set and get a MT!!!! What a waste of a car! An automatic Z is like having a boat with a hole in the haul!
