Default Clunking noise in 2nd

Hey ya'll. I have been driving stick since I was 19. I am 27 now so I have a few years under my belt Anyhoo, when I up shift to 2nd gear I hear and feel a small clunking sort of sound. It happens once in a while. I noticed when I push the clutch all the way to the floor it does not make the sound. All other gears are fine. Anyone else experience this? On my previous car (VW GTI) I did not have to push the clutch in all the way to switch gears etc. Is this a part of the break in process and will the noise go away?

I also have a difficult time getting into 2nd gear and it also makes a clunking noise sometimes when shifting into 2nd. Also when I am driving slow in 1st gear, like almost to a crawl, and i press the clutch down to keep from stalling i sometimes hear a "thud" sound, it sounds bad. but since this is my first stick car i dont have much experience if these sounds are normal.

I know what ur problem is..i had it when i first got my car. It goes away. It gets buttery smooth. 05's and 06's should have no problem after about 1000 miles of driving.

haha yes, high five!!
so yeah I agree with plumpzz that i did notice those problems when i first got my car, now that I am at 1000 i have been noticing that shifting has become more fun. Either that or I've gotten better at my technique. My damn engagement point is soo high, but I think they do this on purpose for quick shifting?

Yeah the clutch's engagment point is kinda high..Sometimes it's hard to find that engagement pt right away after leaving it to neutral..esp during the traffic. I think I will try to adj the clutch later, hope that will help a bit.

my previous car(00 VW jetta VR6) clunked every time from 1st to 2nd....Got rid of that Sucker. Re: the Z..... try rev it up before shifting into 2nd....make sure you fully engage your clutch...it should slide in like a hot knife thru butter.

the clunk is different than the grind. if its like mine, it will clunk into 2nd, especially when its cold. try giving it a little gas when shifting, and a little gas, then depress the clutch when taking it outta first. waalah..the clunk is gone. youll find a rythm, and youll never hear it again. dont waste your time at nissan, by the time you get there, your car is warmed up and "they wont be able to replicate the noise"

No way, my car has about 15K on it, I still have the second gear clunk and when I depress clutch in first gear I get a big ka-thunk sound as well...I didnt know that these sounds were enough to get a tranny replaced, should I take it in?

Clank, clunk, grind, what ever you want to call it. There is definitely issue with going from 1st to 2nd.

Nissan is on their 9th tranny model now.

Earlier 2003 built in 2002 had issue with 3rd gear grind issue.

I had 4 trannys, 3 clevis pin and clutch pedal assembly replace on my previous Z and it never fixed the problem so Nissan bought the car back.
