Default Help guys....weird noise never heard before

Goodmorning everyone I heard a weird noise on my way into work today. First off I have an 03 Touring with 20k miles on it.

Stock tranny and stock everything else except my antenna

First off it is VERY cold this morning about 10 degrees, but car was driven about 15 miles from my parking garage. I dont know when this noise started as I always have radio on............but here is what I heard.

When acceleration after 3k rpms I hear a weird noise that the only way I can describe it is it sounds like crumpling paper in the intake or something. Very hard to explain, usually I think the Z sounds like a plane or something during acceleration, now it has this other noise with it.

I have not noticed slip in power nor are any warning lights etc on???

Have any of you any idea what this may be? This is my first issue with this car and after reading up on these boards I feel kind of nervous......

Thanks in advance for any help you all may be

Oh yeah forgot to add that I did check the intake and it seems quite clear.

10 degrees huh..

Two things
1.You're breaking up ice which has fallen through your engine bay.
2.The extreme weather may have caused your strut tower bar to stiffen. So try loosening and retighting it yourself. If it's not your engine mount bar then check the others.

Perhaps, did it sound like water flowing/trickling through a pipe?? I have heard this sound and I believe it is normal. I have never investigated it, but I think it may be coolant flowing through the heater core (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this). My Jeep GC did the same thing, only louder.

Sounds more like some paper crumpling or something to that affect. Very hard to explain..............

Over the normal sound of the car (which I equate to sort of sounding like a little airplane humm or something, very beautiful sound) it has that below the new noise. Sounds like something coming from my exhaust, sort of like the sound is in front and behind at same time

I hate not being able to describe....

If it sounds like loud paper crumbling or weird exhaust leak as you head over 4000 rpm. Be very careful could be pinging. My car was doing the same thing and i dynoed it last week. Keep in mind my car is NA with bolt ons. When they did the 1st run on the dyno after 4500 rpm my car was pinging like there was no tomorrow. we only did one run because it was that bad. my A/f was 14. Scary thing is that i would of never thought it was pinging. Get it checked bud

FYI ...if it is lean you will not notice loss of power. My car dynoed at 257whp.

Well guys I got out of work today and it was driving just fine. No noise or nothing, I made sure to drive "long" way home.

I took side roads, highway, turned it on and off etc etc and it sounds perfectly normal now.

Could it just been because it is so darn cold out this morning?

Check your engine bay for small animals (whole or otherwise), especially the fan area.

during these cold days molecular atoms of matters tends to get closer together thus making things smaller or compressed as i may say that even wood or plastics make a snapping sound, so does metal. in your case your engine exhaust pipes make the sound like paper crashing since the heat building up around the pipe expands the molecular structure of the metal so you have the paper crushing sound. why just now? deterioration of metal in your exhaust system may be one contributor to the sound. that's what i think....

This morning coming in it sounded absolutely normal and it was more cold this morning than yesterday.

Go figure................maybe it was phantom noise or whatnot....
