Question Front Plates!

All of the Zs I have seen in pics have no front liscense plates. Is this legal? (I live in NJ)
I also heard that the dealers try to drill holes in the front of the car to put plates on it... but it doesn't have to be done. My dealer says it does, but I've got this sneaking suspision that it doesn't. Am I right?
Thanks! I promise won't ask anymore stupid questions! I'm a newbie.

A front plate is required by law in NJ. It is possible to mount the plate w/o drilling holes- you can attach the plate to the front grill w/ zip ties - as seen in the picture below:

My front plate is mounted on the bumper - according to factory specs- I think it looks fine.

I live in cali, and it is illegal not to have a front license plate. I did not have mine drilled cuz I just dont like the looks of it IMO. There are many new cars that do not have front license plates. Tell you dealer not to put the holes in the bumper, and just go without a front plate. If you get pulled over later on, just do the other option (Zip ties). I've had my car for over 2 months and no cops have bugged me for no front plate.

In cali it's not a fix it ticket anymore, cuz so many people put it on right after they got a ticket. It's a $25 fine I think, and if you get 3 or more it becomes a moving violation. So you have 2 chances to get caught, after the second I would just put one on the grill with zip-ties. Thaiboxer, you dont have to worry about the dealer drilling holes in the car, just tell them while they are detailing the car not to put the front plate holder on. Thats it.

Your only problem with that is that someone else would be standing right behind you to buy it

Fortunately for me, Florida is a single tag state. No worries about messing with my front bumper, etc.

You still need to make it known how you expect your car to be prepped. Even in states where no front plate is required, some dealers see that as an opportunity to add their own dealership plate! Be careful, or they might drill it for that. (Maybe they would agree to $100/month for advertising.......)

Frequently stress to your salesman and the person that will be prepping the car "no front plate", or you might get one anyway.

Four and a half months with no tag, no problems. Another thread has a nice bracket being developed that will keep it off the front bumper and in front of the grill for better cooling. I will consider that if I start to have problems, but I doubt that I will.

AudioPat is working on it. Here is the link from the appearance mods section:

Wouldn't being in front of the grille make cooling worse, not better?

The one AudioPat has seems to push the plate forward from the horizontal grill slats that the tie wrap installed plates are resting on, thus giving more cooling air than that installation.
