Default 05 Track Vs. 05 Enthu ???

I was under the impression that all 05s are 300hp...not true right? Only the 05 Track is 300hp and everything else is 287 ? Can someone clarify please? Thanks cuz I'm about to buy one

Tuned for 300hp you mean? gaining 13 horse yet losing 14 torque. Don't start thinking it is magically more powerful. I wouldn't get excited about the "300 horsepower" for function but if you like the label then sure. They might sell a sticker to put on the side too, "300 HP intense model" :P

The hp is gained up top where the Z shines anyway. I have driven both and I like the rev-up engine. People claim it also responds to mods better.

Aha, yeah tuned to 300hp with different pistons, connecting rods, plenum and valve train with variable exhaust cams, with ECU to match of course… That’s some pretty extensive tuning in my opinion !

Guys, do a search, this has been discussed a LOT already…

Bugsbbunny, you might not feel the difference with the engine. You will feel the difference with the brakes between the Enthuz and the Track a lot more!

rev-up engine takes power mods quite a bit better than the old 287 engines.

And yes, only Track and AE models had them in 05. Starting 06, every Z has the 300hp rev-up engine.

Yes track and 35th are 300 hp but less torque and rev high motors also... Comparison stock vs stock... a 04 track is the fastest Z from any year... same as 03 but less defects.

I have driven both, and studied the internals of both, and the rev-up engine is definitely ahead of the curve in engineering, and a much more fun vehicle to drive.

As others have posted, this engine responds very well to modifications, and has slightly stronger internals for FI.

On paper, it may not be much, but a smoother engine that pulls better on top makes a big difference. Also, the higher redline which again may not seem like much, plays dividends during those aggressive canyon runs and track days.

People who claim that it's all hype either have either not driven the 300bhp engine or have just gone on a short test drive. I've had the chance to own both and the difference is clear. If all you're interested is 0-60 and 1/4 mile, then it might not make a difference, but if you're after a better driving car, then the new engine is the way to go.

That's OEM upgrade. The engine has to have the same service life as before. So they have to bump up the safety margin too

For 2006, all MT models have the 300hp engine. The AT models still get the 287hp engine.

The point is clear, you want the fastest stock Z go for a 2003 or 04 track model, want a slightly better motor go for the 05 track and 35th plus all 06 manuals. =).

i have an 06', has anyone actually seen an 06' and an 03-04 "Track model" (fastest) go at it? or are you just assuming according to what you read/heard? IMO, it would be VERY close in the 1/4.. but after say middle of third i think the 06' would pull.. any opinions, this is just my estimate... im human my opinion could be flawed

Your car is beautiful, and your opinion is on the money. If you study the “post your quarter mile times” thread, you’ll see automatics running 13.90, and manuals running 14.20. And 300 horsepower running 14.0, and 287 horsepower running 13.80. Its the driver not the car. All are 350Zs - all are cool.

The fastest stock Z would probably an '03 base due to its weight

I disagree. What are you basing this on? Quarter mile ET's are a poor indicator of performance, as their are to many variables. MPH is a better indicator, but still inaccurate.

I would think that the 05 Track Model is the quickest/fastest due to the variable cam timing, higher redline, and ~200lbs lighter than the 06's.

Great Feedback(s) on this topic. I will probably search for an 05 Track or 35th. Thanks for clearing this matter for me, it's greatly appreciated! Hopefully, I will be able to put my car up on this site.
