Default Exhaust Smell

Hello fellow Z fans....

lately (ok....a couple of months now), I started to smell a sort of "burning" smell every time I got out of my Z (its an '03 Touring). I thought it was just my tires that were running hot but then I realized that it was coming from the exhaust pipe. I have also noticed that the car kinda "spurts" when it is idling once I have ran it for about 30 minutes. I can hear faint popping sounds of debri inside the exhaust pipe as well. I never really thought too much into it but I am beginning to worry about it. Any ideas?

The popping was discussed before and we all figured its normal. I thought it was misfire but sharif corrected me, its very normal.
The burning smell, im not too sure. Some guy had this smell and it was a plastic bag that he ran over and got burnt onto his exhaust and it would smell of burning everytime he had his car heated. Another guy ran over a puddle of oil, and the oil was burning. Somene else installed the exhaust themselvs, and didn't wear gloves when installing it, and the oil form their hands was causing the smell. There are a lot of possiblities.

FWIW I had my car checked out at a dealer and they found a plastic garbage bags melted onto my exhaust. They scrapped of what they could and things smelt much better....and eventually went away. Probably unrelated to your issue, but you never know.

It never occured to me that I might have a bag there. I didn't even look once (although, in my defense, they said it was small and hard to see).

So when you rev the car when it's parked, you can hear something that sounds like rattling in the exhaust? When the car is cool, try giving the exhaust tips a little wiggle to see if they seem loose.

hmmmmm....oddly enough..i couldnt smell anything last night....i'll check to see if there is anything still stuck in there.

The exhaust feels pretty sturdy and it seems the metallic sound and spurts is normal..thanks for the idea anyway MaximX
