Jason@Perfomance, maybe you can get your dealer to invest in a little "experiment"? If the key works, I am sure that many will want to purchase... including me.

Speaking of G35, I think it would be even better to have the keyless ignition system that the sedans have. But that's another thread...
If the JDM or euro market has it, could we theoretically buy a blank key for ours?

Wait, I'm getting a 2-way remote start for my Z installed sometime this week. They are going to have to place a spare key next to my ignition to make it work successfully because of the chip(after sawing off the key so no one can steal my car of course).

So theoretically doesn't that mean I don't need to even get the R34 key programmed? I just need to get it cut and it will work like a charm for me right? Time to go buy a key.

How does the chip work? Is it a proximity thing or is there actually current that runs through the key when it's inserted in the ignition?

I really like that key. It would be nice if it could be cut/programmed or the Z. The current key is pretty bland.

I'm most definite that's it's a proximity because when I get my 2way remote start installed my spare is going to be placed next to it.

I bought a nismo key for my S13 through performance nissan's eBay store, and it never fails to spark conversation with other 240sx owners! It isn't looking so hot after a few months of use though, the chrome is all scratched, the red O's have fallen out, and the black lettering is starting to rub off. Oh, the woes of being in someone's pocket.

I love the NISMO key's... but they are not chipped...

Oh well... Anyways I noticed that the key in the picture from Performance Nissan is different from the key used in the original post. If you look on ebay, they specifically say that it works for the 350Z. Then again you can say anything on ebay to sell a product.

For reference, I'm talking specifically about the key H0564-AA410. The key in this last picture you posted doesn't look like it has a transponder.

Either way, thanks for trying it out Jason.

Well, if this is the case, then couldn't you potentially use ANY key you wanted as long as you had your chipped key with you, on the keychain or stashed up under the dash somewhere? You could cut the key shaft and tape the thing under the dash so you wouldn't have to carry it; you'd lose that extra security feature, but you do with a remote start anyway.

Jason, you said you guys had one of those chipped GTR keys cut; you still have it and could try this out? I'm sure some people wouldn't want to lose that security feature of the chip by stashing one in the car, but you could just have it on your keychain or something if you really wanted a cool key for your Z. I wonder how close the chip has to be? Heck, you could carefully carve the chip out of one of your keys and put it inside a keychain or something...
