But that didn't make me go get the STI, I still wanted the Z

I like the superficial people that believe others think better of them because of their car. Do you really need a car to boost your self esteem?

And then there's the one guy that says a FI Z will beat a STI, yeah lets compare a modded car to a stock car.

To the people that complain about the wing, it is removable. Or you can replace it with a wrx wing and I actually like the look without a wing.
+1.

Seriously, what's with everyone being so full of themselves?

It is unfortunate that the Z community, which appears to be more middle-aged than not, and one would think more educated, would snub their noses at other cars, especially ones that clearly outperform Z's stock for stock.

Seems to me like that's a bit more childish than any big spoilers or hood scoops could ever be.

Not saying anything about performance. The STi is an awesome/great performer, no doubt, stock without mods. I have all the respect for that car, from an engineering stand-point.

It's just that I can't step out of a WRX STi wearing a suit for one of my conferences. But that doesn't look so out-of-place doing so from a Z.

At 33, I can't pull off the ricer-racer thing anymore, especially not in front of my professional colleagues. Maybe if I were 10 years younger, I'd give this a bit more thought.

But at the end of the day, the Z's styling is more mature, cleaner, smoother, classier, and more sophisticated. That's just my (one) personal and totally subjective opinion.

I want a Z because it has 300hp NA motor, RWD, 2 seats and I'm a Nissan fan. And I do agree that it is a mature car to have compared to the STI or EVO.

Boosted cars are much more fun than n/a, even at the same HP level

I think that sums it up the best. I'd hate to say you get labeled with a certain kind of car, but you do. You are put in a certain age bracket label with the STI. I wouldn't feel right getting out of the STI with my tie on...

I think a good description for the Z is Refined, Polished and Mature.

That's exactly why I didn't go with the Z. It came down to the Z, STI, and G35 when I was looking for a car. I'm not into trying to impress someone with what kind of car I drive, especially someone at work or people I don't know. I didn't want something refined, polished and mature in a sports/performance car. I wanted something FUN, visceral, and rough edged, much like myself and I'm 36. Just my opinion, I know others won't agree with me. That's why it's great to have choices as it relates to some of these great cars that are on the martket now(350Z and STI included)

Also, c'mon the car looks nothing like a Corolla, except it has 4-doors. That's a stretch.

so why is a 36 year old STI owner frequenting a 350z board? Makes me wonder if deep down inside you regret not getting a Z.

No, not really. The STI was and still is the right choice for me. I just really like cars and the Z is on the list. Corvetteforums, Supraforums, IWSTI, Clubwrx, LS1forums, My350z, etc.

Got the Z because my Bently is on backorder. Something about money and me not having enough if I remember correctly.

I agree with you, and it's always good to have a variety of choices.

Judging by your signature, it seems you already have/had a Supra TT and a GS-R Integra, and so buying a Z would be purchasing another 2 door with a hatchback (so kind of redundant). In this scenario, if I had multiple cars at home already, maybe I would opt for some variety as well and go for an AWD rally-type vehicle for more raw and "visceral" driving.

Also, it's less about trying to "impress" people/strangers with your car and more about propriety. If it were all about image, we'd all buy MB's and BMW's.

In some lines of work, it would be difficult to pull off driving a rally car (do you want your neurosurgeon who's about to delicately operate on your dad's brain tumor to pull up in an STi and rev his engine?). But in other professions (automotive, racing, car sales, etc), maybe you can pull it off regardless of age (30's, 40's, 50's, whatever).
