Why Did you get a 350z over a WRX STi?

I didn't want something refined, polished and mature in a sports/performance car. I wanted something FUN, visceral, and rough edged, much like myself and I'm 36. Just my opinion, I know others won't agree with me. That's why it's great to have choices as it relates to some of these great cars that are on the martket now(350Z and STI included)
Also, c'mon the car looks nothing like a Corolla, except it has 4-doors. That's a stretch.

I'm not looking to change an opinion at all, I like to hear others opinions on different things, so I can gain a different perspective. I think the person who started this thread just wanted to hear what others thought too. I know there is always going to be the "this car is better than that car" debates, but each has their own advantages. I certainly don't want to turn this into something like the Microsoft vs Linux debate, nobody ever wins and there isn't a reason to argue to begin with.

Well, I didn't read the rest of the responses on this thread but for me I actually came very close to getting an STi. Ultimately I got the 350Z because:
1. it was almost $6k cheaper
2. looked MUCH better than the STi inside and out
3. still had loads of usable street power and handling

It's just that I can't step out of a WRX STi wearing a suit for one of my conferences. But that doesn't look so out-of-place doing so from a Z.
At 33, I can't pull off the ricer-racer thing anymore, especially not in front of my professional colleagues. Maybe if I were 10 years younger, I'd give this a bit more thought.
But at the end of the day, the Z's styling is more mature, cleaner, smoother, classier, and more sophisticated. That's just my (one) personal and totally subjective opinion.

You don't like the Sti and that's fine, there are plenty of cars out there and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But to judge someones character or ability by the car they drive is insane.

And I don't feel a surgeon is "sub par" based on the car he drives (that IS crazy), but that was just an example of how image plays into profession. I could have said a U.S. Congressman or the Pope.
My original point was that some cars (like rally cars) are associated with a certain image (younger crowd, ricer-racer, etc), and these aren't values assigned by myself but by society as a whole. Perhaps unfortunate and a generalization, but that's the reality.
Therefore, there is occasionally some disconnect or dissonance if you're supposedly professional or in a position that commands a lot of gravity but are zooming around in a 2-Fast-2-Furious machine. Some folks can pull it off, some can't. But if you're happy with what you have, regardless of societal image or whatever, I say power to you.

That was funny!!
I went with the 350z for the following reasons:
1. I liked the car as a whole package more than the STi. Both exterior and interior.
2. The sales teams at the Subaru dealerships were a-holes. I expect excellent customer service from someone I'm going to be paying tens of thousands of dollars for any car. I don't care if it's new or used, or the guy needs to feed his kids and is three months late on his alimony - I want to be treated with *some* respect.
Where as all the Nissan dealerships were polite and friendly. I didn't feel pressured to purchase except one instance when I encountered a sales manager at Tustin Nissan who was trying to sell me a stripped down Enthusiast for $32k (total)
