Torque
Just an off the wall question.. Does more torque for an engine mean it will be able to rev faster and in turn hit its peak horsepower sooner than a similar engine with similar peak horsepower but lower torque?
My reasoning is that with more torque on a wrench.. its easier to turn a bolt... so the bolt moves more quickly either on or off. Shouldn't the same principle apply the an engine? And if you can reach your peakhorsepower faster then... even its its a few marks lower than a competing engine.... you should still be able to accelerate faster right? Oh well... just daydreaming and this came to me... correct me if i'm wrong.

torque is the amount of force your wheels are pushing the ground to push you forward. Hp is the rate at which your engine does work... a higher HP means you can put more torque down to the wheels within a given time.

So two engine with similar HP rating at same RPM will have the same torque at that RPM.

Thinking of how the pistons connect to the driveshaft with an arm who's length determins the torque that engine has... it circles the driveshaft..... the more torque you have there *larger cirumference* it must rotate around the driveshaft must also mean that the piston would need to be longer/taller which would in turn mean that you would basically have to have more piston displacement to have more torque. UNLESS... and I'm still just speculating... You reduced the radius in the cylinder/piston so that you ended up with tall skinny cylinder for the piston to travel up and down and then you could have a small displacement yet lots of torque. Is that right? heh.. I really should take a mechanics class.... I've just started to sorta get interested in these things.
